Pre-race routine:

Woke up and drove to the race site. Had a cup of coffee on the way and a banana. Setup Transition with about 15 minutes left until the start.
Event warmup:

Ran a couple laps around the track that was there. Just trying to keep warm. It was freezing at the start.
Run
  • 26m 10s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt OK for the little bit of running that I had done. Found a group that was running my pace and just stuck with them. I was worried about going too hard considering I have never ran and then biked before.
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Transition went pretty smooth.
Bike
  • 57m 25s
  • 17 miles
  • 17.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Eh. Not too happy with the bike. This was actually my first outside ride all year. It was cold and the hills wore me down.
What would you do differently?:

Actually do some training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Had to rewrap my ankle which slowed me down a good bit.
Run
  • 28m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where the lack of any training what so ever showed up. I got a little cramp in my calf after about 1 mile, then my quad cramped with only about .5 left.
What would you do differently?:

Train.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some gatorade and water and watched the other finishers come in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was a fun race and that is all I planned it to be. I almost didn't even go b/c of my lack of any sort of training. The race was at the tail end of probably the busiest 6 weeks of work of my life. I was already worn down and combine that with almost no training in the weeks leading up to it. I wasn't expecting much at all. I had a good time non the less.

Event comments:

This was a great event. Very well run. Would of liked about 15 degrees warmer, but other than that it was great. Be back next year.

early season races are for assessing form and kick starting the WO schedule...looks like you got some feedback.  Overall, good effort and something to build on.  It is very funny that your race was the first time to ride outside!
