Sunny
Total Time = 1h 47m 43s
Overall Rank = 385/442
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 44/51
Pre-race routine:

Panic! Tried not to, but was very anxious about the swim...

Really though, up at about 4:30, ate an English muffin and a banana. Couple glasses of water. Headed over with Mom to the shuttle where we met up with hubby.
Set up transition area (basically just looked at how everyone else had done it :) )
Waited in line at the porta-potty---the NEVER ENDING line.
Event warmup:

Didn't have much time for a warm up because of the line. Short jog around. Didn't have time to get in the water and didn't have time to get to my bike.
Swim
  • 21m 41s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Ended up not being HALF as scary as I was anticipating! Actually stayed pretty calm through the whole thing, just wanting to make sure that I wouldn't get in the way of anybody else. Kept my head up for most of the time, concentrating on not getting out of breath.
What would you do differently?:

Not really anything for being my first time. Was really excited just to get in and do it, and finish!
Transition 1
  • 04m 35s
Comments:

Was very sure about getting my feet clean and into socks and shoes. Actually, was still so excited about being done with the swim that I wasn't even thinking about what I was doing!
What would you do differently?:

Pay a little more attention to time. Not spend as much time on cleaning my feet. Set up rinsing station, instead of pouring water over.
Bike
  • 49m 36s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Thought this was my worst part. My bike is SO old and SO heavy and SO small for me. Felt that I was dragging the whole time. I think I was passed up by every single person in race!
Did not enjoy this piece at all.
What would you do differently?:

Get a different bike! Have already arranged using a different bike for the next race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

My legs were really sore and all I could keep thinking was, "how the heck am I going to do the run?"

What would you do differently?:

Not much. Maybe just work a little faster :)
Run
  • 30m 3s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Was actually pretty pleased with the run. I was not expecting to be able to run this pace. Felt very tired in the beginning, but just kept a slow pace. Kept my mind on the finish and kept pushing forward.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing for being a first time. Thought this went great.
Post race
Warm down:

Hugging the family!!! :)
Walked around, lots of water, bananas, and bread. Stretched my legs and SMILED A WHOLE LOT!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

At this point, I would have to say inexperience. Hope to get practice on a different bike for the next race and hope to see some improvement in the bike time. As well as work on my transistions.

Event comments:

For being a first, it was GREAT! So happy to have gone through with this and am looking so forward to working on the next. I'm thrilled to have a base line to improve on!

Heather,

Absolutely a great job on your first Tri! Congratulations. Looks like you did a lot of things really well yesterday. A change in the bike will make a world of difference in not only your bike time, but also your run. Super effort yesterday and congrats again!
