I remember a TV preacher named Jack Van Impe in the last 90's who predicted the year 2000 would bring the end of the world. Flipping through the channels the other day I saw that he's still on TV. I always wonder what their shtick is after the date passes. |

I don't know who's funnier to watch, Jack and Rexella or Benny Hinn. btw, I too wonder how they'll explain it when the world is still in one piece. Reality television could do a "Punk'd-esque" show on this...surround the "end of days" group's compound with video screens and audio equipment. Turn the hidden cameras on inside and watch the hilarity ensue as they watch horsemen charge through the sky, etc., etc. |

| Subject: RE: Guess I don't need to bother with training.... While driving to my ride Sat morning (yes...) I heard a bit on this on NPR. It was amazing. People that follow this guy have quit their jobs, emptied their savings, because, you know, after the 21st and the rapture what good is money? It was actually kind of sad. One young couple witha 2 year old and a baby due in June quit their jobs, moved to Fla to hand out pamphlets, and have budgeted their money so that come 5/21, they have nothing left. Then they said this preacher originally marked 9/2004 as the rapture. When asked what happened, he said he hadn't fully read the book if (?? whatever, doesn't matter), which gave him more info on the exact date. Wouldn't you expect the guy to read the whole bible before making this stuff up?? |

Readers Digest version: All the other prophets that have predicted the end of the world have been wrong -- but this time we're right, because, you know, we have the secret decoder ring that tells us the TRUE date when Judgement Day will come.... If you look a little deeper into the predictions, it gets even crazier.... Judgement day will begin with a massive earthquake that will open up all the graves on the earth. The "saved" will ascend to heaven, and the remains of the "unbelievers" will litter the surface of the earth.... Chaos and death will follow. Judgement day will continue for a few months, and on October 21, God will completely destroy the Earth and anyone who's left. On a sidenote, I have a friend who was looking to rent a house for a week of vacation this summer with her family. She found a house that looked perfect on-line and contacted the owner. The owner said she wasn't renting the house out after May because - well, the world was coming to an end, so why bother (and threw in advice to my friend about how she and her family should be preparing themselves for salvation, etc., etc., etc.....) There are seriously people out there walking away from jobs and families because they honestly believe that Jesus will be taking them home on May 21.... |

While these people are clearly idiots and I don't believe in Armageddon or 'the end of the world', it would be kind of cool to think that there's a specific date the world ends. If I believed things would end in 6 months, I think I'd be living my life a little differently right now! |

All of this training down the tubes. At least the world is going to end at the end of a pay period; that way I get a full paycheck and can...oh, never mind. |
