I know this might seem totally stupid, but what do the stars after people's names mean?? (Sorry to you folks that hate stuff like this!)

Not so totally off topic: I believe this was covered before but I was not paying attention. Since I am a total bike ignoramus, is there a "Bikes for Dummies" website? I feel like I will not be a good rider until I understand my equipment.

Thanks!
Kori

The stars mark the number of posts.  You get a green star for each 25 posts and a purple for 100, etc.

When you get to 75 total posts, you'll see three stars instead of two after your name.

The stars are based on how many posts you've made here on the forums.

As for Bikes for Dummies, I'd check your local bookstore. There are lots of good books out there that explain the basics of bicycle mechanics, maintenance, and technique.

For bike websites you could check some of the links in the BT directory. There's an icon for it on top of the page. Good luck.

That'll be depressing though, because he'll only have one star, it doesn't look as extreme.

RED

I guess I should have gone with the red Guru instead of black...oh well, maybe on the next bike.

If you want to understand your bike a little more and you want to learn some maintenance, I would recommend:

Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance.
