Subject: LI New York Hello!!!
Signed up for my first triathlon (sprint) for September on Long Island. I have no gear..haha..but a ton of motivation. Always been an athlete..I climb, hike, bike and workout regularly and most recently completed Tough Mudder event which sparked my interest in Tri's. Any advise/help is appreciated..I am training from now until whenever...

Hi Damien and welcome to BT and triathlon!

Hmmm no gear ... but you bike? Whose bike is it?

I'd suggest picking a training plan on here that suits your abilities and time you have to train--doesn't have to be for a sprint or to fit your time frame perfectly until September, but just to get you going with all that motivation

The Beginner's articles are a really good start, too.

A mountain bike is fine for starters. If you feel like you really want to commit yourself to this sport, you can always get a road or tri bike later on. Most sprint tris you'll see at least several mountain bikes.

A MTn bike works. You might want to put a pair of slicks on it. Borrow or rent them. Where on LI are you? I grew up in Huntington Station.

Your mountain bike will fit in just fine there, it's a mini sprint so I think you'll see alot of other first timers at the race. Nice event to get your feet wet.

I'm probably going to be volunteering there(most likely in transition).
