Hope the BT family is all OK, or accounted for from the storm.

A reminder to say a prayer for some others though. The Louisiania and Mississippi National Guard has units that are deployed in Iraq. Imagine being half a world away, and worrying about family, friends, neighbors, relatives, etc. Please take a moment and think of these folks too.

[For those of you reading this, please make a donation to the Red Cross or similar organization helping relief efforts!  This is no joke, ya'll.  Don't judge us by the scumbag looters you're seeing on tv.  There's thousands more good people out here who really need help.  Thanks.

Maybe we can get Ron to set up with The Red Cross and all BT'rs can contribute what they can through the site.

I have evacuated further north to the Memphis area (my hometown)...who knows how long I will have to stay here.  Still haven't heard anything about my house.  What an shitty feeling it is to think that I may have all that I own with me in my truck as I move from town to town.  Thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers.

My husband and I made a donation to the Red Cross yesterday. I soooo wish we could do more. I am way up in the NW and have just been so sick about all this devastation you all are facing. My heartfelt prayers go out to you. I've been reading the posts from all of you down in New Orleans area and Biloxi, and am relieved to know you are safe. It is hearwrenching to know so many of you are without your homes. Take care, take care, take care!

Manatee Express - 2005-08-30 6:40 PM Still don't know anything on our house but we are located in an area that didn't flood as much as most of the city. Still lots of trees to fret about. Rob/Joann (H13's) and Brandy live in lakeview and that area looks ruff. I know they evacuated but haven't seen anything from them. Thanks for the weather channel link, I didn't know they were updating area info.

I am alive. I evacuated my CPU tower, but nothing else, I couldn't stand it, I went and bought new stuff today so that I could take advantage of the free high speed internet at the hotel. Just gotta love a $15 monitor from Goodwill right.

I live lived in Chalmette, and my bike could not come with me so its still there. Looks like I won't be Tri-ing any time soon. It is likely that I lost everything, and a bike will not be on my list of priorities to buy. I will try to continue to run. But my first race will not be until next year probably.

I am tired and sad. I am annoyed with being in a hotel room and feeling completely useless. School will likely be cancelled for the semester which pushes back my graduation date to next December. When I think of the reality of what the storm did to my life it makes me want to cry. The tension is very high in the room where 3 stressed out people have been with each other nonstop for 4 days now.

I am so sorry for all of you who are cutoff from your homes, tired and wondering what will happen next. My heart goes out to you.

Is there anything we can do specifically to help you?

Can I send running clothes to you? I have a bunch of size 6 and 8 cotton shorts I never wear (I buy too much clothes) and tshirts, jeans, tons of socks. Dry goods? Games? Cards? What do you need?

Oh my God. *hug* If you wanna drive up to Montana, I've got a spare room, good food and a bare minimum of natural disasters. But I suppose there are closer places to go. Really, best of luck to you and to all who've been hit so hard by this storm.

As has been previously stated, I am willing to help in any way I can, food, clothing, shelter. I live in Longview, TX whixh is about 40 miles from the LA border (hour away from Shreveport). All of the hotels here are already full from people who have had to evacuate, but I offer up my apt. to anyone who needs a place to stay and if I run out of room, I know of lots more people around here who will gladly open up there homes. Please don't hesitate to ask for help!

Me too...any one need anything?? Heck, I could at least send a care package to SOMEONE and I'll include the latest issue of Triathlete Magazine or whatever your choice is! Favorite CDs? I make AWESOME chocolate chip cookies (so I am told), and zucchini bread. Please email me privately if you so wish!

Hang in there!!

Good news!  My parents drove down to Slidell this morning to check on their house and their cats: all are fine.  The house seems to have survived intact and is quite dry.  And all the cats are in good health, but a bit miffed.  They took them loads of fresh water, food and litter.

I am so sorry. I am so sad for you. I wish I was closer to help but MI is so far away.

I have some clothes that are size 16 I can offer if someone needs them. I am happy to mail them. They are used but not used up. I know it isn't much. I wish it was more.

This a picture of my neighborhood. I can almost make out my house. It's  at the top toward the middle right. It's weird. I look at this picture and I can say, hey, that's my high school right there, and there's the civic center, and the home depot, and the regions bank building.

I talked with my aunt this morning for a while, and even people in Baton Rouge and elsewhere in the state are going be hurt by this.  My uncle works for the state, who banks with Hibernia Bank.  My aunt's company also banks with Hibernia.  According to her Hibernia is non-existant right now, so even though they're going to get paid this Friday, it's very likely it will be a slip of paper only.

I'm half tempted to go join the Red Cross and go help in any way I can.  I don't keep a lot of extra clothes around, but I'd gladly give up everything to help someone going through this.  Well, everything but my bike.

Hey, I can offer help here. I am a Hibernia employee, and I would think outside of the region it will be business as usual. I know that we have reduced operations set up in Shreveport as that is where I will probably be heading in a week or so. I am not positive though, as I have not yet been in touch with my bosses, but I would think that they should be fine, and for branches outside of the GNO area and Bayou regions, the branches are up and running as usual.

(wow, that made me feel incredibly useful )

I am so sorry for all you have been going through. If I can put together a care package for any of you let me know. I have a spare, older, mountain bike that is looking for a home, running clothes I could send you, or any of the basic necessities. If you need clothes, I'll send you those. If you need linens, I'll send you that. If you need computer parts, we have spares of those. Let me know how I can help.

nliedel - 2005-08-31 4:25 PM Madkat, I worry so much about the animals.

Nancy, they're not being ignored. There are people looking out for them. My brother has worked for the ASPCA during natural disasters going into evacuated areas rounding up animals that can be transported and doing daily checks/feedings on the ones that can't. Animal Planet did a one hour special on his team a few years ago.

I think the question in your sig line has been answered.

Gene says (hey everything Gene says is golden... he is standing behind me looking at the photo of your neighborhood while I type this) that the bike may not be a total wash if it is still in the house.

I know but I get all upset about animals and kids. During Opal we would not leave our animals. It was not smart but we had nowhere to take them and the thought of Jesse alone and scared was too upsetting. Now I have kids and while I would never abandon my Mini-Husky I would put the kids first. I don't know what I would do.

That was my thought. I really wanted to take it but for some reason the people I was with thought that fitting more people into the car was a bit more important than bringing my bike. I put it in the bathroom on the inside of the house, so I am hoping that as long as the bathroom door didn't open it will still be in my house, otherwise it may be floating down the street at this point. I am hoping I can have it professionally cleaned, get a new seat, handlebar tape, and some new cables and it will be good to go. Man, I am really hoping this is the case, it's all dependant on that bathroom door. Well that and hoping that no one steals it before I get home. Hopefully their hands will be full with the tv/radio and such. Yes I would rather live without tv than my bike.

Someone else has a sig line on here that I've been thinking of alot these last few days - something to the effect that you shouldn't worry about what you can't control.

Man, watching all of the reports and reading your posts makes me feel pretty useless and extremely fortunate at the same time.
As others have stated, I'm more than willing to offer anything you need. Food, clothing, some tri gear?
My husband works for Siemens and they have a fund going where Siemens will match dollar for dollar what the employees contribute. It's going to the Red Cross.
My hubby asked if we should donate even though we're on basically 1 income and I told him to do it because right now we have much more than any of those left homeless by this devastating storm.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and your families.
