I'm developing a theory and potentially working on a new product that shows how swimming less, and focusing on specific dryland exercises for swimming, can actually lead to going faster in the water. I'm looking for crossfit experts to discuss this with, and possibly to come on my podcast. If you are that person or know of someone that might be a good fit, please email me, kevin at triswimcoach.com

Thanks!

How different would your product offering be to this item currently on the market? I've been considering this product but I can't find much feedback on it.

My goal is to create a program that helps people get faster by spending less time in the water. And a LOT less time. This would be geared towards those who have already achieved an adequate stroke, but don't like the idea of doing massive yards of swimming to prepare for their race. I haven't studied the program you mentioned in detail. I don't know if they are using crossfit or other dryland exercises. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

While you're at it, I'm looking for a program where I can sit on my couch for 16 weeks, eat Big Mac's and drink beer, and then finish an Ironman in under 12 hours.

Dude, it all depends how you define "finish an Ironman." If you mean, roast and eat Macca in 12 hours, the guy from Man Vs Food might give it a shot with no training. If you mean finish an ironman-shaped-cake, I can do it in 6 hours now.

very nice the both of you.

To OP, good luck with it. I am curious though, what do you believe a knowledgable crossfit dude or dudette may tell you?

I'd be interested in seeing what you're proposing.... I feel like I have essentially reached a plateau in my swimming. If I wanted to focus a lot of time and effort on the swim, I could probably get a little bit faster, but in terms of triathlon, I feel like I have more to gain by focusing on bike and run. Plus, I like bike and run more.... It seems like, for me, the difference between spending a lot of time in the water and spending a little time in the water is pretty small, and personally, I would prefer spending less time focusing on swim, and more on bike and run (which is what I do anyway, but I would still be interested in taking a look at your program...)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what it sounds like your'e saying is that you can replace the TIME spent in the pool with TIME spent doing dryland exercises to get faster at the swim.  Is TIME spent 1:1 or are you suggesting that you can spend less time all around training and still get faster?  The reason I ask is:

1.  If it's a 1:1 ratio people will not actually save any time.

2.  Isn't the swim mostly about positioning, balance and connection with water?  How do you achieve this with dryland exercises?

3.  Speed is different from endurance.  Are you you suggesting that you can improve endurance as well with overall less training?

Sincere questions from a newb.

That is debatable. I live 20 miles from my YMCA lap pool. I have to factor a lot of travel time in my pool workouts. Even open water is a solid drive for me, and not really even legal.

I just have to say that speed and endurance are not at all separate. I can be a really fast swimmer for a very short period of time. I need the endurance to be able to keep up that speed.

And not everyone has limitless access to pool time. I am lucky if I get 2 sessions a week. I wish I could go more often but I can't and 1 hour at the pool is a great deal for me.

Good points.  I'm not saying that speed and endurance are separate.  Far from it.  But my understanding is that they are trained slightly differently.  There is how far you can swim, how fast you can swim and how far you can go fast.  Right?  I'm no expert, so perhaps others with more experience can help out on this one.

As far as limited access to pools and long drive times I can see where the desire for some program could be useful, better than nothing so to speak.  My question still remains; how can it be better than specific swim training?

Well, I don't want to speak for the OP.... but my guess is that the argument is not that it is BETTER than specific swim training, but that it is an alternative for some people that provides similar (but I would guess ultimate slightly less) benefit without dedicating the same amount of time to lap swimming.....

I am unsure of what you are trying convey here as your paragraph appears to contradict itself. Would you mind explaining what you mean?
