Subject: RE: Charcot Marie Tooth Disease I have not worked with an athlete who has this, but I am familiar with it generally. I highly recommend you go to a physical therapist. There are different subtypes of the disease, but I'm assuming you are having weakness in the lower leg (possibly foot drop or foot slap?). A PT will be able to guide you into specific strenthening exercises and if necessary, can recommend a brace for you to wear. If you are thinking of those big clunky AFOs (ankle foot orthoses) there are very light minimal ones made for athletes that give anything from total assist of lifting the foot to very little assist. Some of those braces really are very light. Hope this helps. |
