Does anyone on here have this disease, or know an athlete who has dealt with it, or know someone who has coached an athlete who has dealt with it?  Please let me know!!!

I have not worked with an athlete who has this, but I am familiar with it generally.  I highly recommend you go to a physical therapist.  There are different subtypes of the disease, but I'm assuming you are having weakness in the lower leg (possibly foot drop or foot slap?).  A PT will be able to guide you into specific strenthening exercises and if necessary, can recommend a brace for you to wear.  If you are thinking of those big clunky AFOs (ankle foot orthoses) there are very light minimal ones made for athletes that give anything from total assist of lifting the foot to very little assist.  Some of those braces really are very light.

Hope this helps.

Todd McCollough(sp?) - played in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76'ers and New Jersey Nets.

Eventually had to retire because of it. But remember...the guy was (is) nearly 7'-0" tall and close to 300 lbs. I don't know how he would have been impacted if he had been even 6'-0" 175 lbs...
