Pro 4174 Keller, Texas | Subject: Thinking of a tattoo? I'm not sure why, but I am considering a tattoo. I found this on-line. I guess I will ave to get permission from this tri club to use their logo but I like it. Next year when I do my first 1/2, I can get the M Dot added. In the end, I may chicken out but I am really thinking about it! (tattoo.jpg) Attachments ---------------- tattoo.jpg (54KB - 21 downloads) |

Member 54 South Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Thinking of a tattoo? Ahhhhg, no, don't do it. Actually you should trust your own judgement, but it is a choice that many people regret later in life. Knowing that going into it, go for it. Just my opinion though. Edited by Capt. Dave 2005-08-28 10:16 AM |

Veteran 253 Joysey | Subject: RE: Thinking of a tattoo? DO IT!!! I have 3 large ones ( mainly on my back) and they are the best thing that I have ever done. Granted it's a personal choice and you shouldn't ley anyone make that decision for you, but still.... The way that I did it was, I got them in places that I could easily cover up. It's not that I'm ashamed by them at all, please don't think that, it's just that they are personal for me and I don't need people judging me before they get to know me. Know what I mean. Word of caution, though. They are EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE !!! You can't just get one, remember that. As soon as you get used to the first one you'll be looking for your second and third, trust me. Happy tattoo hunting and best wishes! Shauna |

Veteran 290 Arlington Heights, IL | Subject: RE: Thinking of a tattoo? I've seen this done before - the M Dot cut in half horizontally for 1/2 finishers. My humble opinion - skip it. It is too hard to forsee 25+ years into the future to know if you will still feel comfortable having been branded with something like a tri club tat. I have a friend who tattooed his fraternity letters on his ankle when he was 19, and now into his 30s, he's a little embarassed by it. What is meaningful now may not be in the future..... |

Veteran 289 Colorado Springs | Subject: RE: Thinking of a tattoo? I'd say come up with your own design, using that one for inspiration. I have designed the ones I got now, it makes sure you will have something that you like and that is unique. Life's too short to be worrying about being embarrased by tattoos. In today's society they are accepted, that leads me to beleive that they will continue to be accepted in the future as we get more comforatble with the human body and free self-expression |

Master 1791 Raleigh, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Thinking of a tattoo? Nothing wrong with a good tat in a well chosen location of something that is meanful to you. Me personally, its either full M dot or nothing. Somehow filling in only half of it would make me feel like I haven't fully accomplished something...which is totally wrong since finishing a half IS a huge accomplishment. I've toyed with the though of one. I don't have any currently and the permanence of it all has really got my attention. It has to be someplace that is concealable for work/professional occasions...but also someplace that can be noticed. Good luck deciding. |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Thinking of a tattoo? I have two tattoos and I love them. That being said, I took a long time to make the decision to actually get the tattoos. I probably waited about a year before I did each of them. That's probably a little long, but I was so sure that I wanted them. I've thought about getting others, but I end up deciding I don't want them after a few months. I also had henna versions of each design done before the actual tattoo so I had a chance to live with it for awhile. Like I said, it's a lot of effort and it might be a little excessive, but I don't regret them at all. I love the designs and everything about them. Waiting awhile now might be frustrating, but it's something you will have for the rest of your life. Take the time to make sure that it is perfect. When you do go decide that you want to get a tattoo, take time to find a great artist, too. Ask for recommendations, check out their work, and talk to them. It's about as important as the actual design itself. |

Expert 1065 Montreal | Subject: RE: Thinking of a tattoo? I have two tattoos and I do not regret getting them but I would not do it again. The current tattoo styles - fineline - deteriorates quickly regardless of skin tone and how much you protect them from the sun. Even old school large bore tattoos blur and deteriorate over time. It is your call, but you do have to realize that within 20 years it will be a much changed tattoo. |

My rational is, finally I'll be scarring myself with something thats meaningful to me... |

Extreme Veteran 493 Bay Area, CA | Subject: RE: Thinking of a tattoo? I have seven tattoos and plans for more. I got my first one when I was 18, I am 35 now, and I do'nt regret a single one. I am a well employed professional and have placed all of my ink inder my suit (with the exception of my ankles, so I wear slacks, not skirts, a lot when I'm in meetings). I have two tattoos that I don't like, but I wo'nt cover them because they represent a chapter of my life and I'm proud of my history. That said, it is a very personal and permanent decision. No one can tell you to, or not to, get one. For me, they are like potato chips. I can't stop at one, but they are a huge commitment. Sort of like a Half IM..... |

Expert 798 Potomac, Maryland | Subject: RE: Thinking of a tattoo? You prove yourself to yourself in the race, not with a permanent advertisement on your body that advertises what you've done to others. Moreover, though tattoos are all the rage now, that may well change with the fickle nature of fashion and style. That said, my advice is to use some foresight and think of what this will say about you to others in later years. The IM logo is certainly cool, and the accomplishment of completing an Ironman is something to be proud of, but are you prepared to have the explanatory conversatoin that goes along with it every time someone asks about what the tattoo means? Seems to me that would get old fast. |

Expert 680 NC Illinois | Subject: RE: Thinking of a tattoo? they are the best thing that I have ever done. Tattoos are the best thing you've ever done? I guess I will ave to get permission from this tri club to use their logo but I like it. You really want that on your body for the rest of your life? Does it mean something special to you? I've thought about it, and after doing an ironman-distance race ... I'd only consider this ... http://www.superherostuff.com/Biographies/IronManBicep.gif... I think it's cool, it's more me than any corporate logo, and my son'll like it ... and likely someday my grandson will like it. Chances are I'll always like it and only I will know what the real meaning of "Iron Man" is. I actually prefer the "140.6" logo to the "M-Dot" logo. M-Dot is overdone. http://www.baysixusa.com/b6_ecomm/images/stickers/1406_sm.gif Edited by TripleThreat 2005-08-29 5:33 PM |
