Subject: Achilles tendon problem
3 weeks ago I felt pain in my right achilles tendon. I took a few days off and the pain was gone. Then I had a week of normal training without signs of any pain, but few days before it started hurting again. I know that I'll have to take it easy with running over the next few days, but can I continue with biking? Will it make the pain worse?

I've experienced something like that before. I usually see it as a sign from my body that its time to get a new pair of running shoes. Sure enough when I check the milage I'm getting up towards 500 and the shoes are starting to show wear and tear. I was able to bike and swim during these periods but don't go super intense because I found I was more prone to cramping. Thats my two cents.

i had Achilles tendonitis a few years ago (mainly from wearing cleats to play lacrosse). New, proper running shoes will help. I also did PT with a lot of stretching of that tendon, and strengthening (calve raises, walking on my toes, etc) which have definitely helped for the long-term.

I have treated many athletes at the Boston Marathon and IM Lake Placid with injuries from Sciatica to achilles tendonitis with the products from www.tpmassageball.com. with great results.  You should check out this website. .  Feel free to pm me, because I am a rep for this company.  I can send you the attachment or you can read it from the site.

Thanks for your offer. But I don't think that I need terapy. I just need a couple of days rest and I'll be as good as new.

Could be that you are tight in the calf muscle groups, especially the Soleus (that the deep one that connects to the Achilles). It's easy to forget to stretch it if you don't know about it. Stretch it by bending the knee when doing a normal "calf" stretch (it isolates it from the Gastroc's)

I suffered a bit from Achilles pain "higher up" than the attachment point to the heel and found that this stretch made quite a difference.
