I am loooking for a way to keep my head from being burnt while still saying cool. I have tried all sorts of hats and they just seem to make my head hotter. Anyone got any ideas?

Headsweats.  Very light, awesome job wicking away sweat.

Best hat ever.

Check out Headsweats at: http://www.headsweats.com

I wore one of the classic coolmax bandana style ones in my first tri last Sunday (see my photo).  I was real happy with the way it kept my head cool and sweat out of my eyes - both on bike and run.

People will also recommend Halo headware, which is similar but supposedly channels sweat away from your face instead of absorbing and wicking it away.

x3 Head Sweats   Caps and skull caps both work great. I wear a skull cap under my bike helmet.

I use the desoto skin cooler helmet beanie for tris. For just running the headsweats head bandana thingy works great.

totally agree.. with the all the headsweats comments

plus for me I found out that if I keep the back of my neck cool it really helps keep me cool. so also check out some motorcycle shops.. they have something similar that had a extended pouch in the back with a ice pack gizmo that was better than ice. or you could just use ice

I've also just used a regural bandana, and put ice in it from the aid stations then tied it so it rested on the back of my neck.

your milage may vary,,, but keeping the back of my neck cool helps me more than anything else

Soak your ball cap and toss it in the freezer for a couple minutes before you run. Anytime you start getting too hot wet it down again. Means you have to carry water when you run, sports drinks work, but you end up a sticky mess.

We have a bandana type thing at work (steel mill).  Basically get it wet and wrap it around your neck.  Supposed to keep you fairly cool.  I'll get the manufacturer's name tomorrow.

Or... Headsweats.  My running hats are mostly those and they do work pretty well.  Still, I take it off from time to time during long runs when I'm not in the sun.

Another follicley challenged runner here who loves the Headsweats hats.  They only heat up your head a little bit, they don't create a chrome-dome furnace like other hats.
