This race didn't exactly go as I expected, but I learned some things along the way.  Perhaps some of you might get something out of my experience.

I pulled this thread up because I'm looking into doing the 100 at Kettle Moraine 2012. I seriously almost cried reading this. I'll make sure I have a good reason to finish what I start in June and hope if things do go south I have the presence of mind (or accidental luck) to refuel and refresh at an aid station before making a final decision.

Steve,

Nice report.  I always tell people that doing an ultra is half mental and have physical.  Sounds like this one was 99% mental for you.  Glad that you got over that and finished.  It will make you stronger for your other races.

Ultras are 99% mental, and rest is all in your head.  ;-)
