New user 64 | Subject: St. Croix Valley Tri and Square Lake Tri maps here. Hello fellow Minnesotans, and Wisconsinites too. Since I know there are some others here who are doing the St. Croix Valley and the Square Lake triathlons the next two weekends, I felt like posting some maps of the short courses. The official maps are pretty bad in my opinion, so these should help you considerably. New user 64 | Subject: RE: St. Croix Valley Tri and Square Lake Tri maps here. Another FYI to the St. Croix Valley Tri. I received an information email from the race director. Here's what it said. Thank you for registering for the St. Croix Valley Sprint Triathlon on Saturday September 3rd. The event starts at 7:30 am. Maps are in each of the race bags or you can view the maps with written directions at http://www.finalstretch.com/triahlon_course_map.html. Race packet pick-up and timing chip pick-up is from 12 -7 pm at the Woodbury Running Room (651-714-8710). The directions to the Woodbury Running Room are take 94 East from St. Paul or Minneapolis or west from WI to 494 going south. Take 494 south and exit on Tamarack Road. Take a left onto Tamarack and go to Bielenberg Drive and go right. Take Bielenberg until Currell Blvd. Take a right onto Currell and take an immediate left into the Shoppes of Woodbury. The Running Room is facing Bielenberg. Otherwise, you can pick-up your race packets on race day from 6:00 am to 7:15 am at Lakefront park in Hudson. Directions to Lake Front park in Hudson is 94 East from Mpls or St. Paul or take 94 West from WI. Take Exit 1 in WI or 35 North into downtown Hudson. Take a left on Walnut Street and the park is one block ahead of you. The transition area is for triathletes only after 7:00 am. We will have fencing and flagging around the perimeter and marshals monitoring the transition area. Water will be available before the race so you can fill up your water basins for rinsing feet. There is no riding bike in transition. Teams will have an exchange area where they are required to go to exchange the chip and tag off. The area will be near the bike out and in area. The event is wave started. Your wave assignment will be on your race number. Please ask an official if you have questions on race day. The waves will start 3 minutes apart and there will be six or seven waves. You will be required to get marked on both arms and on the back of one of your hands. You need to have your race number on for the bike and the run course. It can be on your shorts or shirt but should be visible. Each mile will be marked on the course and water stops are at the 1.5 and 2.5 mile for the run and at the 5 mile mark for the bike. There will also be a waterstops at the beginning of the run. Please take off your chip after the race and before you leave the park. Swim caps and wetsuits are allowed but not provided. Awards will be after the event has concluded. You must be present to claim your award. The hog roast and drinks will be free for all participants. Donations to help with the cost are requested for any non-participant that wants to eat. A donations box will be at the beginning of the line. The luau will have roasted hog, rice and pineapple and bananas for the everyone eating. Thank you for participating in a Final Stretch event. If you know of some one who is participating but has not yet signed up, they can do so on race day or at the Woodbury Running Room from 12 -7 pm on Friday. We have about 50 to 75 spots still available. Pictures will be available for all participants after the event at www.aiaphoto.com. Information is in the race packet if you forget this. A little note to all triathletes is that in 2006, Final Stretch will be introducing a new triathlon to the metro area. It is sure to be as good as this event and the course is very scenic and flat!! See you at the race!!! Mark Bongers Race Director |

New user 64 | Subject: RE: St. Croix Valley Tri and Square Lake Tri maps here. No sweat Derek. I slapped together a map for ya, the distance calculator on the Gmaps site shows it as 1 mile longer per lap than what the race officials say, but it's still not too bad. Full loop is 27 miles, two laps required for 54 miles total. I'll leave the run map to you. Square Lake Long Bike Course Map The way the GMaps site works is you use the links/buttons on the left to get started. First clear the map with "clear points and start over". Then get in the general zoom and location you want to start with and click the button "Start Recording". From there you just double click on the map at the start point and continue double clicking down the road at each curve. It will look bad at first, but try again and you'll figure it out pretty quickly. When done, click the "permalink" url on the left and then you can bookmark your map. The "tinyurl" also works, but I haven't used it yet. |
