I'm still working on race day nutrition. I'm ok with the GU's for during but what should I have before the event for breakfast. I've heard everything from Yogurt, to Cliff bars, to Accelerade, GU packs, and oatmeal. No 2 people have the same advice. My problem though is my nervous stomach. I'm pretty sure I'll be spending most of the morning on the potty- so keep that in mind.

generally speaking for myself (who has a nervous stomach), I usually eat a 1/2 bagel with pb&j.  I drink some gatorade/water/1/2 scoop of accelerade.  You definetely do not want to over-eat .  I also eat about 2 hrs before my race starts.  On the ride to the race I drink about 8 oz of diluted gatorade.  Do not eat anything solid within 2 hrs of starting!  If you cannot handle solids, I would recommend Boost or Ensure. Either one has protein, fat, and carbs and contain 230 calories or 350 if you get the Boost Plus.  You should practice pre- race nutrition as well as nutrition during the race also.

I usually combine 2 of the following: balance bar; oatmeal; english muffin w/pbj and/or banana. I also have some water. I've tried Boost before put had problems when I stated the swim, maybe having the liquid and laying horizontal.

I think the key is to make sure you eat early enough on race day that it won't be a problem during the race. If you are worried about eating on race morning you could set your alarm to wake up 3-4 hours before the race eat your breakfast then go back to sleep that way when you wake up you could eat a smaller snack.

What ever you choose, practice before race day!

What do you have on a normal training day? I stick with the same thing every day - that way there are no surprises. Usually 2 bananas and a 1/2 bagel. Keep it simple!

I agree. Eat what ever you would usually eat in the morning before a big workout. Race day is not the time to expirement.
