Subject: Is it possible to replace internal cable housing?

I can not get a new shifter cable through my front deraillure housing.  It goes all the way to the bottom bracket in the housing, but it will not make the bend up and out of the frame I assume this is where it is).  The bike is a Q-Roo seduza.  The bike was shifting perfect, but when the old was removed, the new one would not go.  Any tips, tricks, well wishes?  I live in a flat enough area for big ring, but damn.

I'll give you some well wishes.  I know that the routing on Quintana Roo's can be tough, I know I spun my old one into some crazy angles on the workstand trying to get the cable to drop.  But there is no cable housing inside the bike...just got to fish that sucker through the hole.

joy- not looking good for the home team then.

edit:  if the cable will not go in through the exit then I could have a catastrophe?

use an old cable (both ends cut off) or some fishing line, run it REVERSE through the frame (will make it a bit easier to fish out most likely) then tape the new cable to the old, and pull it through.

Internal routing is a PITA... get a case of beer and clear your schedule for the day. Good luck.

Aside from being harder to replace, are there advantages to internal cabling?  I am looking at a bike with internal cables, but I never fix anything more complicated than a small brake adjustment or a flat tire myself.

I heard dental floss in one end and use a vacuum cleaner to suck it out the other end, then you can pull the wire through with the dental floss.

Some fishing line, a small nail, and a big magnet also works fairly well.

But really the key is to tie the fishing line onto the old cable before you pull it out so you have a guide for the new one going in.  Next time.

Cables routed internally do not create drag.
