Pre-race routine:

The usual egg, bacon and cheese sandwich and coffee. I'd like to thank my wife for not being able to sleep much and getting up early to fix this wonderful spread. She is participating in today's swim also!

About a 75 yard light out and back swim.

Comments:

I was a little bit anxious with this being my first open water swim. I didn't know what to expect, so I didn't set any real goals. I started off cautious and found a good pace a couple hundred yards in. The most difficult thing I found was maintaining a straight path. My goggles fogged up after a few minutes, so sighting wasn't exactly easy. Having other swimmers around helped me at times to feel comfortable with my pace and direction. When I finished I felt I could have pushed a little harder, but I'm glad I didn't. It was good to finish feeling in control. I waked away feeling a huge sense of accomplishment.
