Anyone have any idea as to the order of the waves for Racine? Would M30-34 be toward front, middle, end?

Don't know about this year, but last year M 30-34 was either last or second to last.  Don't remember which.

If I remember right from last year, that wave was near the end.  I had the impression they spread out anticipated faster waves over the entire time.  Some of the really large age-groups were even split apart (alphabetically) and were not one right after another.

Wave #5.

For those of you departing at the end, think of this . . . no problem finding your bike at T1 and you can suck some free watts as you pass all those people on the bike.

Cheers.

I just hope they don't run out of water, gatorade, sponges, etc... for those of us in the last wave.  With the heat, I'm planning on carrying some of my own water with me on the run.  Don't trust IM enough to rely on them for water, etc...

Just make sure you work through slower waves on the swim and bike and beat them to the run!!!!

Yes, well, that just happened yesterday at a HM/10K race in Milwaukee.  Hopefully IM takes note, especially since this was on the front page of the local paper today:

It almost makes it worth it to turn 40 this year after looking at those waves. That's a long wait on the beach if you're not in the water until 8:30.

I remember temps hitting 98.6 in Racine in '05 and heard the stories from last year's race so we should be ready for this, right? Maybe the likely 55 degree water won't feel too bad after all...i'm sure it will keep everybody's core temp in check until we're all done.

Yesterday I was absolutely astonished  to find out that the age group of 35-39 (which I happen to belong to) is AGAIN the last swimming wave!

Last year we were told that the faster age groups were randomly scattered throughout the waves, so they don't all jam together. So, I took our destiny and "bad luck" with a stride and tried to make the most out of it.

However many things went wrong purely because of the fact that we started last:

  1. From 5 minutes in to the swim and till the end, all I did for 5 hours is pass people
  2. As the bike leg progressed the wind picked up, and the last 30 minutes of the bike leg were entirely against the wind (which is likely to happen any day in the late morning)
  3. The run started that much later- getting us into the very hot hours of a July afternoon
  4. In the middle of the run, it rained for a bit, making the heat and humidity terrible
  5. Throughout our run, all the refreshment stations ran out of ice, which made refreshing in the heat with hot liquids a bad situation

I understand that a lot of the "mishaps"  above are not in anyone's control. However, they are ALL related to the late start that we were "randomly" subjected to- and #1 on the list would not have changed either way- unless you went slower and didn't pass people!

As I said, I have been through it last year and took it for what it is.
But, the thought was that the waves will change- and not the same people will get the short stick yet again!
I have paid just as much to enter to this event as any 25 year old- and it's a lot of money!
I trained a whole year for this event and this is my main event of the year!

I was trying to find the starting waves previously and noticed that they were just published- so, take a moment and CHANGE THEM UP! This is uncalled for.
