Subject: LTHR Heart Rate?

OK, I know there have been a few posts on here about the Lactic Threshold HR but I wanted to get an opinion from you guys?  That is why we are here, right?

  I have completed the LTHR test a few times on my own now and my results are in these approximate areas:

Run = 182 LTHR

Bike = 172 LTHR

 I am am fairly young (30)  and in pretty solid shape with a decent athletic background so I assume that my HR should run slightly higher than those older than me. I just wanted to get an opinion from anyone that has done Zone training while using there LTHR as a meter and see if mine sounds too high?

Thanks for your info in advance!

Tommy

I had mine testing "officially" on the bike and the folks gave me the estimate that the run is usually higher by about 10-12 BPM, so your numbers seem to fit that.

However, my experience is a bit different in that my Bike number was 155 (again tested), and in a recent 5K my average BPM over the 19ish minutes was 181 with a max of 189.  So given the "warm up, run all out, take the 20 minute average test" my Run number is in the 180 realm, some 35 BPM over my tested Bike number.

FWIW, I'm in decent shape for a 40 YO male.

FWIW, as lab tested on my bike, my LTHR is 159 bpm.  I'm 58 and my resting HR is around 44 bpm.

There is no "high" or "low" there's just "you".

The 10bpm differential between run and bike is common so there's nothing about your results which seem odd. I know people who have higher bpm LT numbers and those with lower. What matters is how fast you can go at them, that's where the rubber hits the road, so to speak.
