Subject: Tri season over..headed for Baton Rouge
I am officially heading for Baton Rouge on Monday morning, to stay for over a week.  I will be volunteering as an NICU nurse at a local hospital that has been inundated with refugees.  I will be staying at a local church that has created a "Mother/Newborn and Expecting" shelter.  I guess the hospitals are having to discharge new mom's early and many have nowhere to go.  They asked me if I'd ever delivered a baby!  I told them I'd seen about 600 deliveries and could probably figure it out!  So I will be working day and night.

My last Tri was on 9/11 and I opted to skip it and go help where needed. I have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed, but know that I am being called to do this. Everything just fell into place too perfectly.

If you're the praying type, keep me in your prayers.  To all those who offered airline miles or assistance, thank you, in particular Madkat and Tedwards.  People here have been enormously generous and have taken care of all my expenses.

Melanie

Hey, Melanie, that's awesome!!!  You go, girl.  As luck would have it, my folks are in Baton Rouge and have a place that is undamaged and ready for whatever.  If you think they, or their place might be of use, just let me know via PM...I'm sure they'd be more than glad to pitch in how they could, even if it's just to have some overworked nurses for a dinner for a night.  Good luck!!

No, THANK YOU, Melanie!  All I did was pass along a few phone numbers.  You're the one who did ( and will be doing ) all the WORK.

And, like I said, if you need anything while you're there, just let me know.  We'll keep you covered.

I checked out the website for the church who will be hosting you, and they're calling for donations of all kinds, but especially for infant supplies. I'd be willing to send you a gift card if you want to, and have time to, go do some baby-stuff shopping before you go, so you can take it with you.  Let me know.

Just found out that I will be working the night shift at the hospital and may not be able to sleep at the church durin g the day. I am desperately seeking a home to sleep in. I will be gone all night and sleeping all day...you won't even know I am there! I will have a rental car with me.

If you can help, please PM me!

Melane

Melanie,

Have you asked if there is anyone working at EKL that can house you?  If they can't, I'll see if my people down there have a friend with a couch you can use during the day.  And what about getting to and from the hospital?  Do you have a car you can use?

Don't fret.  We'll get this one worked out too.
