Subject: 74 degrees - Wetsuit or No Wetsuit

I have my second sprint tri on Sunday, lake swim of 1/3 mile.  The current water temp is 74 and as of today wetsuits are legal.  Would you wear a full wetsuit if you had one?

My first tri a little over a month ago included a 1/3 mile swim in the ocean (65-67 degrees).  It was cold and the suit helped immensely - not only for the warmth but the reassurance (it's basically a full body life preserver). I did that swim in 2:10/100 - slow but still alive! Getting it off takes no time at all, but in this next tri there is a decent distance between the water and the bikes.

Oh, and the air temp is supposed to be in the 80's - sunny.

What do you think? Thanks for your input.

There's your answer right there. Always wear a wetsuit if you can because the time savings will far outweigh time lost in stripping the suit (5-10s).

The distance between water and bikes shouldn't be a factor ...

I swam 1.2 miles in one at just under 75 degrees about a month ago in my first HIM.  Heat was not a factor so if it's a sprint go for it, especially if getting it off only adds 10-15 sec. to your time.
