What sunblock does everyone use? I'm using some 15 sport right now (can't think of the name). It works fine for one sport but after a long run or bike I have to re apply (i apply 15 minutes before) I'm looking for something thats going to last through a OLY. My Irish skin is not a fan of the sun.

I use Neutrogena Ultimate Sport 70+SPF. The spray on my body and lotion on my face.
Works REALLY well, has held up for 5, 6, and 7-hour rides in the heat.

I have been using the Up & Up (Target) brand spray this year and it's the first year I haven't sported at least one sunburned spot.  I put it on the morning of my Oly a few weeks ago and was fine the whole (sunny) time (over 3 hours).  Even I was surprised.  I am sure it was 50 spf.

I follow a regimen of using a LOT and putting it on early enough that it can soak in.

SPF 12 tanning oil by Hawaiian Tropic. Yeah, I still tan but then if it either rubs off during a race or I forget to put it on during transition I don't end up with 3d degree burns for being out in the sun for 8 hours without anything.

use a stronger SPF. it will last longer then for protection. If you issue is being sweat off because you sweat a lot, you may just have to re-apply. No matter what a sunscreen says about it being sweat proof - none of them truly are sweat proof, maybe resistant but that is as far as they go. I am a fair skinned red head and I always have on at least SPF 30 if I am outside for more than a few minutes. Also make sure whatever you get offers both UVA and UVB protection. I believe that SPF only relates to protection against UVB so do not count on that to keep you covered.

Coppertone 'sport' spray for body, lotion for face. I also use 'no ad' spray, it's much cheaper and works well on my very very fair skin.

Does anyone have a problem with their sunblock causing excessive sweating, or have found a sunscreen that doesn't cause this? Whenever I use Banana Boat, I start sweating immediately, and just pour sweat for my entire ride or run- everything sweats- my shins, my wrists, the backs of my hands- it's weird! This doesn't happen to me on days when I don't use sunscreen. I've tried a few other brands, but haven't liked any of them.

Banana Boat Sport SPF50. Early application and I am good to go. I really can't comment on the sweat question, I sweat like crazy just walking out to get on the bike.

Works REALLY well, has held up for 5, 6, and 7-hour rides in the heat.

x2 on this, although I get the CVS generic version. Very light, doesn't clog up pores, and it's lasted me 4-5 hours on a day when I lost 7 lbs in a 4 hour ride (Including drinking close to 100 oz of fluid). I have yet to even come close to getting burned when using it.

Another vote for the Neutrogena. I use it on my face as well... close the eyes and mouth and spray away.

Target or Coppertone sport spray.  By mistake bought the 30 instead of 50SPF.  Did a 4hr ride (full sun) on Sunday and was fine (except for the couple of spots on my back that I missed.....ouch!).  I'm fair/reddish hair and burn easily and sweat a ton.

Still looking for something sweat-proof for the face that works well without repeated applications and doesn't cause breakouts.

Bull Frog surfer formula. Stays on for days. Well, maybe not quite days, but it's good stuff.

I also like the Target stuff. I got some Banana Boat spray last time and it feels like I'm coated in plastic. Effective, but not very breathable.

Bull Frog marathon mist works great.  I have also used the bull frog surfer gel, which lasts a long time, but is a little messy to put on.

Took my kids to the local pool for a day of fun between 11:30 and 3:00 pm. Like an idiot completely neglected to sunblock my back...after religiously ensuring the kids were wearing full body bathing suits, hats, SPF 45 on anything not covered.

My back got so fried that I had to cancel my ride for yesterday. The thought of the heat beating down on my burned back (even througgh a jersey) and rubbing with sweat kept me home....and lesson learned for this summer at least!

Banana Boat SPF 50 Sport is what I use.  I also have tops that have built in SPF 20 or 50 protection.

I also use Bullfrog.  I burn easy.  I can put this stuff on before the swim at an IM and not need to re-apply anything.

It is alcohol based so you aren't left feeling greasy after applying it.

I heard a radio program the other day with a dude from the FDA talking about new sunscreen standards. He said that according to their lab tests, no matter what the bottle says, the longest you should go with one application of sunscreen is 80 min. New bottles will either say 40 min or 80 min on them. Even if you don't burn you are still absorbing the harmful effects of the sun and are at risk for skin cancer. Especially athletes who are outside many hours a day. I'm fair skinned so I'm not gonna risk it. My grandpa got skin cancer and I want to avoid it if possible.

Perhaps you have a chemical reaction to an ingredient found in the Banana Boat product?

Also the new standard is that SPF 50+ will be the higest rating. It has been stated that studies show that there is no noticable difference in protection between spf50 and anything higher. I believe that makers are no longer able to put waterproof on the packaging either. I pay attention to this sort of stuff as sunscreen is very important to me as I am not supposed to have prolonged exposure to the sun. I do at times .......but pay for it afterwards.

I fry no matter what kind of sunblock I use; it's a matter of frying vs. frying less. For me, Neutrogena Sport has been mediocre but will do in a pinch, especially if I reapply it a lot. Coppertone Sport works better and doesn't run into my eyes and sting (Neutrogena does), but it's still not great. The Banana Boat lineup, including the newer spray Sport varieties, have been near-useless for me.

I'd love to try Bullfrog but we can't get it here (the Neutro and Coppertone I brought back from the U.S.).

There is one non-frying sunblock which a friend of mine makes here. It's also edible and smells like chocolate, which means I keep wanting to lick it off myself. The one problem is it's not rub-proof. It is incredibly sweat and water resistant without making me pour sweat additionally or causing me to break out, though.

I've tried pretty much everything, and for the OP and others, the sport-specific formulations of Neutrogena and Coppertone are at least worth trying.
