I searched forums and did not really find anything on this.  My wife just bought me one for father's day. I have found it to be a great workout and has really helped with my lower back troubles. I also love the on-line logbook and the chance to compete for a world ranking. I know these are often incorporated into crossfit workouts. Anyone else doing it?

No, but I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Your wife rocks! I don't have one but I use one once in a while at my fitness center. Rowing is a great low-impact and full-body workout. Although it's not specific to triathlon, I think this will make a great change of pace workout if you need a break from s/b/r. As for Crossfit, I've done some CF workouts in the past and throw some in once in a while.

I had one of these years ago, it was fantastic. I developed some knee pain while using it and my brother-in-law talk me in to letting him use it for awhile....never saw it again! Spend some time getting the proper technique down. Just like the swim stroke, if you develop bad technique, it becomes habit.

So far, so good. I have been following the workouts and form from the concpet2 website. I cannot believe the numbers that some people produce  on the machine. Following a one minute easy/one minute hard interval I am sucking gas and drowning in sweat. I think it is great and would highly recommend it. I will love it especially in the winter here in upstate NY.  And yes Mike, my wife does rock!

Used to use one at the gym before getting into tris.  Thought it was pretty nice.  Never thought to look at their website for workouts.  Pro Jordan Rapp was on the Princeton rowing team if I remember correctly.

I have a love hate relationship with the erg(ometer), I rowed for the past 6 years and trained on the erg practically every day. It is a great workout but make sure that you have good form or you could really injure yourself. If you really want a killer erg workout to mix up your tri training try a 12 x2:30 with 30seconds rest. It is an AT workout so you should be pushing it pretty hard, the average split that we were expected to get was sub 1:44.0.

I am doing intervals now for 5k where I sprint for 30 seconds and recover for a minute. I can get to a 1:50 pace on the sprints. Still improving.

That's not bad at all. I'm about the same. I can hold a sub 2 minute pace for 30 seconds, at most 60 seconds before I need a break. Nice to see you getting some good use out of your erg.

The concept2 web site has some great "challenges" for motivation. I am doing the holiday challenge now and trying for 100k in 30 days. They send you a little pin and make a charity donation if you make the distance. Its pretty cool.

Being a former rower, I also have a love hate relationship with these.  I would HIGHLY recommend finding a rowing program of some sort (or a gym with a trainer that knows about rowing) in your community and see if you can do a couple of coaching sessions.  You will find it allows you to be much more efficient in your strokes and it will protect your back.  Improper technique can cause things like slipped discs or shoulder problems.

To give you an idea of how much time I used to spend on them...  My average workout 3-4 days a week was 5k meters under 20 minutes in the morning with water workouts in the evenings.

My PR for a 2km was a 6:10 and 1:22 for a 500m when I was 17.  I had some shoulder problems and had to give up the sport at 18 but recently started trying to get back on the rowing machine.  It still scares me so I limit my time on it to light longer workouts.

Have fun and take it slow in building up workouts.

I assume that it will get easier over time. A nice comfortable pace for me for a 5k is around 2:45/500. I can hold under 2:00 for about 30 seconds at a time then I am dying. However, on the honor boards there are a ton of people in their 60's rocking that pace for 10k so it has to get easier, right?
