Total Time = 1h 34m 38s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30 am and drove to Suncoast to pick up Jessica. Drove to the race site and got registered and set up. Met up with Mike, Wendi and Ben
Event warmup:

Stretching. Did a little swimming.

****Official times and rankings not posted...times off my watch...I do know I was 5th in my age group
Swim
  • 08m 33s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

I made a bad choice in clothing. Turned out my tri top is too big and it gave me a lot of drag. Current pushed me into some bouys. Really wanted to be under 8 minutes....failure number one.
What would you do differently?:

Wear clothing that fits. Learn to pace myself in open water better. Sight less
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

I had my shoes elasticed on and couldn't get my feet in. I ended up with my feet on my shoes for about a mile. This has worked really well for me in the past, but I hadn't planned on racing and I haven't practiced it recently.
What would you do differently?:

Decide to race more than 24 hours in advance
Bike
  • 47m 41s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Pathetic. Failure number 2. It was a windy but I should have been able to do better than this. I probably lost 2 minutes or so messing about with my shoes. My legs were sore from my little experiment yesterday.
What would you do differently?:

I wish I knew
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

this went fine...only thing that went well was transitions :(
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 36m 4s
  • 3 miles
  • 12m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Blistering 12 minute miles. Pitiful. My hip started hurting after the first mile. Also got blisters on my foot. Is it possible there is a pair of running shoes out there that will not give me blisters? I was really hot the last mile.
What would you do differently?:

It wouldbe nice if I could actually train running some day
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water and gatorade. Got cleaned up and into dry clothes. Wendi Got 2nd in Athenas so we watched her get her prize

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I can't effing run because my hip is still effing broken and I can't effing train the run. Blisters. I'm very disappointed in my bike. I have been training it really hard and have a new bike this year and I was only marginally faster. Don't know what to do. My legs were sore from my little experiment yesterday which made it difficult to push hard. My top was too big and caused a lot of drag on the swim.

Event comments:

This is a nice small race. I should not have done it tho. I'm just depressed about the whole thing. I have been training a year, invested in a new bike and I'm a whopping minute faster. I'm sick of being injured and training in pain. Today I am really ready to chuck the whole thing. Everybody else did really well.

Sue--YOU got me into this tri mess with THIS race a year ago!!!  You did a great job today!  It wouldn't have been the same without you there racing!!  Get your body healed up and let's go back next year and win OVERALL!!

Hey Sue!

Please don't be depressed about this!  Your times are great, given all of the limitations that your hip and neck have been giving you.  I am soooooo impressed that you went out and did it.

All that work didn't go to waste, even though it probably doesn't feel like it.  You have the motivation, girl, and that's what counts....SPIRIT!!!!

HOLD IT!

Under 2 min. per 100 yrds and 18 + MPH on the bike!  I'd give a tooth for your swim time.

Your bike is solid

You are running on an injuried hip and managed 12 min. miles - - - when I was healthy but overweight, I couldn't do 12 min. miles (just18 months ago.)

Given some additional time to heal (this winter might be a good time) you'll be like a spring chicken come April.  I don't see the negative here.  I certainly don't see a DNF.

I'm going to congratulate you even if it is pisses you off!  Good Great job!!!!

Sue.... even though the race didn't turn out how you hoped it would.....just think about what is going on with you....broken hip, very sore neck, no running for awhile, and you did an ambitious brick type workout the day before.

I know once you get healthy you will see the improvements you have worked so hard for.

Allow yourself to heal so you can reach your potential....and not hurt yourself.

You perserve when most wouldn't. You are a winner in my eyes!!

I'd like to swim and ride as fast as you do...and your run on a broken hip is what my run time is when I can train.

sue, you did the race, you were faster than before,  Swim and bike times were something to be proud of, running was a pain but you pushed thru it.   Cannot expect perfection the first time out of the gate , expecially after the rought times you have had. Just the other day you were talking about a bad neck, for several days on top of that.

I say , good job,, hold your head up high. Enjoy the ride, smile and be proud.

Sue, kudos for getting out there and racing while injured and not having ideal training situations. Just think of how you'll do when you are healthy. Great job!!!

Thanks everyone for trying to cheer me up.  Basic underlying defect is I am sick of being injured.  I think I am going to just concetrate on my aquabike and forget about running for a while.  I'm not even going to think about trying to do the 1/2 at Gasparilla.  I'll try running again after Miami man and hopefully get a coach when I can resume real tri training.

Ok...here's my suggestions....too big of a top???? Ditch the top...screw the no nudity rule.  Make a statement...or come out of the water squealing and yelling  "Who took my top!!!!!"  LOL!

Ummmm... 19mph in a strong wind is really NOT BAD!!!  I think you're crazy thinking it sucked.   Truly...its like climbing a hill for the entire race.

Ok...the run was slow.  That's the only thing I'll give ya.  But hell....you have a freaking busted hip.  LOL!  Aside from drugging yourself up, I can't think of anything you could do to go faster.  Well...unless you had some of the funky 70's sneakers with the roller skates hidden in the bottom.  But I think that might be a little obvious.  Now the swim top thing....I think I'm on to something.

Seriously Sue.  The conditions sucked but you perservered and finished your race.  Not much you can do about the top, on the bike....bribe mother nature maybe???  Inject some crazy glue into the break for the hip?

I hope you heal up soon so you can get some speed back!

Just don't be too harsh on yourself Sue, you did great.  Hey, you shaved a minute off your best time and that is an improvement .... oui .... non!?!

I think that the best thing you can do for yourself, for your hip and for the rest of your body is to stop training until next season.  Work on your hip, do some physio and just generally get yourself back into shape before you resume training.  Can your doctor not immobilize your hip so that it will heal faster?  It is difficult to give up your training, I know, but you can concentrate on upper body, some weights maybe and/or some breathing and stretching excercises.

No WONDER your hip hurt so much.  You've been beating yourself up over this race too much.  GOODNESS, Sue, you did great.  I'd be happy to have your swim time and if I had a fx in my hip I'd be ecstatic that I could even run that distance and still walk after.  You need to come over to this coast and visit.  You'll feel much better.  Tropical Tri is this Sunday, waddaya think??
