In the car headed down there right now!  (Don't worry, my husband is driving.) We are somewhere south of Nashville.  The weather is looking much nicer here than it was up in Michigan. Getting excited! Smile

A little nervous about jellyfish during the swim... We don't have those in Michigan!  What do I need to know? Is it pretty easy to avoid them and swim around them? How likely is it to get stung? Yikes!

I think it's hit or miss.  I didn't see a single jellyfish (or any ocean life for that matter) in 2010....but other people saw lots of ocean life.

Jellyfish in the Gulf is a nuisance more than painful.  You can pick them up by the dome and move them out of the way.  Just watch for the tentacles.  The sting is very mild and it gives you a little rash.  Full sleeve wetsuits will help.  I think the ones that are common this time of year are called moon jellies.  I wouldn't worry about them.

nice little swim this morning.  So no jellies.  Surf's up today.  Water temp at the beach was 62 - only chilly when you first got in.  About 100 yards out it warms significantly - probably the gulf's usual 72 - 75 degrees.  Pretty nice.

Lots of waves this morning and pretty big seas.  It made for some fun going up and down.  I'm glad that it's that way today.  Should calm down by race morning.  Pretty strong long shore current this morning. (in the direction we'll be going)

Safe travels you guys.

Last year I didn't see any jellyfish until the "deep" water. I'm guessing maybe 500 yards off shore. At that point I saw a lot of jellyfish. Each one was spaced out about 10 - 20 feet from the other. One thing I noticed is they were not at the very top of the water, they were 3 -5 feet below the surface. I was able to swim right over them without touching them. There were enough of them that it is pointless to try to swim around them but they posed no problem. I have no idea how it will be this year, but that was my experience last year.

Good luck to everyone racing on Saturday. I raced it last year and I am volunteering at the finish line from 3-6 this year so I can register for next year. I can remember how excited I was last year to race my first IM and I am very excited for each and every one of you. It will be an epic day and one you will remember for a lifetime. Enjoy the entire experience!!

Swim this morning was a little rough, seems to calm down a bit just over a couple hundred yards out, water temp was nice and comfortable - in my opinion... was out around 8AM...

just a reminder.  BT swim 8:00 Boardwalk beach hotel on the boardwalk.  Probably by the stairs that lead to the beach.  Everyone is welcome.

Come on in, the water's fine.

Rode my bike over the run course today.  There appear to be a couple short ( 20 ft or so) cross country spots.

they've got boards laid out on the one in the park.  Stay on the boards.  There's a hole off to one side you would not want to step in, in the dark.

I think I'm going to ride the run course in the morning after our swim.  Hopefully the wind and waves will calm down a little overnight.  The dolphins were enjoying the waves just before sunset this afternoon.  They were riding the waves and and jumping around.  Enjoyed watching them.

Thanks for the updates on the water and run course.

I hope to join all of you on Friday morning for the swim. Glad to hear that the water warms up a bit farther out as I am not good in cold but even worse in waves

imiranda - 2012-10-30 11:33 AM Getting on the road today from Houston after kids school, driving around 5 hrs, sleeping on the road and early morning another 5 hrs direct to checkin. Staying at Boardwalk condo. Tomorrow afternoon maybe a little swim or ride, but for sure thursday morning group swim.

My husband (KenOtt) is racing. We leave early tomorrow morning and are driving straight through. What are your kids ages? Are you planning to trick-or-treat Wednesday night?  We will be there with our girls 5, 9 and 10 years, costumes are packed.

My kids are 8-6-4, and yes customs for wednesday night. Lets meet with the kids in the lobby, what time?
So sorry, just now got access to BT. Wish we had been able to meet up.My husband Ken will be at the swim meet up in the morning. Blue Seventy full wetsuit.
