Comments:

I ran with my husband for the first 9-10 miles...He just didn't think he'd make it solo, and our friend had an injured hamstring...so, I hung with him until I could no longer contain myself...I spent a lot of time running my pace and glancing back to keep him in eyesight...then would run almost in place to let him catch up, then repeated...I felt really, really good and wanted to take off....but, I was just "doing this for fun"...Just after I saw my kids at the turn to the boardwalk (gave them each a kiss and passed on the gatorade they were holding), my IT Bands started to lock up. Weird, never had this before...It got really bad, just as I was hoping to tear it up for the finish! I had to stop 2x during mile 11 and stretch them, and my right foot was starting to cramp. I don't know if all the turning while running did it, but I've never had that happen before. My finish wasn't pretty.
What would you do differently?:

Run my own race, maybe.
Post race
Warm down:

stretched it bands, walked forever -got water/ amino vital, stood in a really long line for a rotten banana, fig bar and plastic sandals...went to the beach, got a free beer, went to look for BTers-looked for our friend..rode our bikes home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

well, my husband :) and then my own dang legs.

Event comments:

Great race. The music and crowds keep you moving...The food was less than stellar, for the cost of the race. My banana was good for bread, but not me...And it was really far away and a long line. Otherwise, it's such a fun race. Nice folks, well organized.

Great time despite your legs not treating you good!  You're right- the set up they had at the end was ridiculous!  I think instead of having all those vendors on the boardwalk selling race stuff at the end they should have had the darn food tents there!  I have never had to walk so far in my life!  I skipped out on the food and flip flops- glad ot hear the food wasn't great- I guess I didn't miss much!

I hung out at the B sign for a LONG time waiting for my other friends, but didn't see any other BT'ers.  It was funny because there was one lady standing there who fit your description, and I asked her if she was Mimi and she said no and turned around.  I think she thought I was crazy!!

Nice race Mimi. You had such a fast time and you were waiting for your husband. I'm looking forward to seeing the time from your next half. When is it?

If you don't have any further ITB issues, I would just chalk it up to not running your own race and pacing yourself. Hopefully they've all cleared up.

Great job Mimi.  AND you kept hubby out of trouble too!  I can't even imagine what kind of time you would've gotten if you HAD kept your own pace.  (glad I'm not in your AG)
