I'd signed up and had been revving up my training for it, but alas, no race. Just thought I'd spread the word. Any recommendations for halfs within a 5 hour drive of east TN in late Sept-early Oct. are appreciated.

Ran the inaugural last year and it was fairly well done. There's a killer hill at the end but the rest is fairly flat. However there has been a rumor going around that they may reverse the course. I haven't seen this year's course map yet so I'm not sure.

I was pumped for Atomic Man too

I may do IM Augusta (Georgia) if it's still open. Also looking at Rev3 Carolina and possibly Triple T.

I'm considering Beach2Battleship (and flirting with the idea of going for the full....Surprised) I somehow missed Rev2 Carolina in my search - I'll give it a look!

I'm an idiot. Around here Half means Half Ironman not half marathon. Sorry. Still a good race.

Augusta or Rev3 South Carolina are my vote. As far as Nashvegas, I'm not a fan of inaugural events. I'd rather the kinks be worked out. $.02

I did Augusta last year. Very, very fast swim. As a matter of fact I am a much stronger swimmer this year than last year. I swam a 32:30 Sunday in the Music City (slightly under 1 mile). Last year in Augusta I swam a 30:18 for the 1.2 mile swim.

The bike is not bad. No huge hills.

The run is 100% flat. The highest point is stepping over the railroad track. The run goes up and down the city streets and it's 2 loops. Was very spectator friendly for my wife. I think she was able to see me 8 times on the run.

that's good to hear. I watched the "drive through" of the bike course and it does look nice overall.  I'm leaning towards this race pretty heavily (that and my family asked that I not race the weekend of Rev3)
