Swim
What would you do differently?: Not much. Good swim. Got out in front at the start and just hammered it. First place in AG was only 30 seconds faster so I was definitely cruising. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Pushed it hard on this bike. There were some rolling hills, and a couple longish gradual uphills. I passed tons of people, only got passed by 2-3 people. Bike comp has average speed over 21mph, so I think the bike was a bit long. Still, happy with how I pushed it. What would you do differently?: Push even harder I guess. I didn't watch HRM, just rode hard. Watched cadence and speed. Tried to keep speed over 22mph and cadence over 95. Did that for most of the course. I guess I could have pushed the uphills a bit more, HR dropped into the 150's a couple times. Transition 2
Comments: Good T1. A little bunched up a the entrance to transition. Fumbled a bit getting on one of my socks, but pretty fast. What would you do differently?: Smoother putting on socks. Run
Comments: I was really happy with this run. Not a PB, but considering the hills, a very solid performance. I ran the entire course. Passed a couple people on the run course this time. A ton of them on the hills ( they were walking 'em ), and even a couple out on the course. I played a trick when I wanted to walk the last couple hills. I just started counting to 4 over and over. I was at the top before I realized it. I just zoned in and kept the legs turning over. Finished strong. I pushed the hills really hard. HR hit over 180 on the hills, and was over 165 for most of the run. What would you do differently?: Just get faster overall. The hills slowed me down a bit, but not as much as I'd thought. Post race
Warm down: Stagger across the line. Got a bottle of water, promptly chugged it. Walked around a bit, and stretched legs a lot. Calves were tight after all the hills. What limited your ability to perform faster: Overall run speed, and overall bike speed. These will continue to get better with more training. Event comments: Last years time at this race was 2:50 and was my first olympic. I took nearly 30 minutes off my time in one year. Pushed the hills hard, they fought back, but I won. :) Last updated: 2005-05-13 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3:15. Had a bowl of granola and an Odwalla juice. Drove to race, got there just before 5. Grabbed a good spot on the racks.
