Subject: Long time runner wants to tri

Hi! I am a 34 yr old woman that has been running for 18 years, and now I am ready to do triathlons.  I wanted to know just some basics:

Is a bike shop a good place to be fitted for the proper bike?

Is cycling going to hurt my knees?  Knock on wood I have NEVER had any injuries, and I dont want to keep myself from my first love(running) because I end up hurting my knees cycling.

Are there any good beginner books/videos anyone can recommend?  Especially with the transitions part.  Thats whole thing has me scared!

Thanks again!

Welcome! You have a huge advantage as a runner and I hope you love the sport.

I am probably one of the only people in the world who get knee problems from the bike, but I have chondromalacia patella that is severely aggravated by biking. It's only in one leg, and it's supposed to be due to undertrained medial quadriceps. This probably won't be a problem for you with your background, though.
