Not sure, but just as a heads up Xterra is having an off-road triathlon up there this weekend, the course is at the Snow Valley ski resort. I heard the swim will be in Snow Valley's private reservoir (that they use to for snowmaking in winter). I have a friend that was going to participate and we were going to head up there to watch but she pulled out. I'll be up in the area there in a month for a 22-mile Ride & Tie race.

I found this snippet on Wikipedia:

Because of the very cold water and the presence of underwater obstacles near the shorelines, swimming is discouraged.

It is a completely snow-fed lake having no other means of tributary or mechanical replenishment.

But also this from bigbearlake.net (plus a lot of photos of people swimming in the water):

Meadow Park offers a swim beach in the summer as well as playing fields and tennis courts.
