Is the Brezza II worth the extra $ over the Mistral, and why? Thanks

IMO there are two classes of 3T bars.

1.) The Ventus

2.) Everything else

I say this because the Ventus was designed very intelligently (when it comes to aerodynamics) it is one of the most slippery bars out there, however it is Illegal in UCI races.

The "New" 3T, which includes all the other bars, are for the most part pretty "un-aerodynamic" so far as how fat the base bar is, etc. (worse than say, the cheapo Vision Bars)

The big differences between the two bars you've mentioned

- The Mistral extensions mount beneath the base bar (although an adapter kit can change this) while the Brezza mounts above.

- The Brezza's brake extensions are straight as opposed to slightly upturned, which is (generally) good for aerodynamics but makes sudden braking a bit riskier.

- The mistral has a considerable amount of different mounting options for the elbow pads.

For the money, if 3T is your choice, unless you know exactly how your setup is going to be, I would suggest (and I own personally) the mistrals. After that, it would be very hard to convince me to buy the Brezza's over the Aura's.

Thanks. Sounds like the Mistral is the way to go then.

Would there be a different aerobar you would recommend over the mistral?

it depends on what you want/need out of them. There are certainly better options out there from an aerodynamic standpoint, and also from an adjustable (at least, the angle of the extensions) point, but the Mistrals are not something you will probably be overly unhappy with.

What would be more aerodynamic in that same price point?

The two most slippery bars out there are the Ventus and the USE Tula... both are pretty pricey and have their own limitations (the stem/availability of the Ventus and the Brake position of the Tula)

Other good choices that are semi- or totally integrated

- Easton Attacks (If you know exactly what position you'll need)

- Anything HED makes

- Felt Devox Bars

- Shimano Missile's

- Any of the newer Profile Design bars

If you want to "build your own" (not integrated base bar and aerobars)

Profile Designs Prosvet is probably the fastest option, followed very close by the Syntace Stratos and then the Vision offering for a base bar. Extensions are really a matter of what you like.

I just built up a friends bike with Mistral's, very nice aerobars and very adjustable. I would say that these are great for the price and the design does look very aerodynamic (not that's seen any data supporting this though, but 3T usually do spend good money on developing good products).

Personally, I love my Easton Attack TT bar, but they have zero adjustability, so either they will fit, or not, there's nothing in between

Thanks again. I think I am going to go with the Mistrals

This mistrals can often times be a harder bar to fit from an extension point of view.  The mistrals have their extensions mounted below the pursuit bar whereas the brezza are above the pursuit bar.  If you are using a S-bend extension the mistral shape will not get the hand position high enough relative to the forearm rest which will cause an uncomfortable wrist angle.  You can overcome this by using a longer ski tip or j bend extension, but thats more money to pour into an aerobar.  The brezza is the way to go.
