I'm actually getting sick and tired of training. I'm in my peak weeks of training for a 1/2 IM race, doing big hours of training and getting little rest.

I used to enjoy going out training but now I get depressed at the thought of it.

Does everyone get like this in their peak training weeks 2-3 weeks out from the race?

When was your last rest day?  Maybe you need some rest.

My peak weeks always seem to be the most fun because the race is looming and I like to see where I am at.

If your not having fun, what's the point of doing this stuff?  Right?  Unless you're getting paid, then suck it up buttercup

Being burned out from training and not enjoying it is one of the signs of overtraining. Sounds like you need a low volume week to rest and recover.

Yes. I get like that when my training load has built to the point that I'm so tired I can't see straight. That's usually right before a recovery week or right before taper. That's one of the reasons I love tapering, and sometimes wonder whether people who say they hate tapering aren't working hard enough during build periods. Are you following a plan? If not, you should still be incorporating short cycles of 2-3 weeks of increasing volume followed by a week or so of reduced volume for recovery.

I wouldnt say that I hate the training, but I do hate the difficulty in scheduling and the long hours sometimes.

Read the summary for August 1-7.

Nate Jenkins' training blog

I think it's timely.

Yep, I was there last summer during my HIM training.  The ridiculous 4 hour bike sessions AND then a 4 mile run after?  I thought I was maybe crazy to agree to it.

I tried to just focus on 1) how much easier my race will be because I worked hard, 2) the sense of accomplishment, and 3) knowing that it was just one week and next week would be easier.

Hang in there!

Are you talking about this portion in particular?:

"You have a go like that during a stretch of dull unimpressive training like I’ve been doing, particularly coming back and its very frustrating.  Makes you feel like you want to quit.  I hesitate to write that because I don’t want 50 comments saying don’t quit, etc.. But I think it is important for people to hear that we all get down and want to pack it in.  I wanted to quit many times in HS and college, just wanted to walk away.  I wasn’t nearly as good as I thought I should be, I was regularly beaten by guys I knew I was working harder then and then in college I was hurt all the time.  On top of that other peoples success always seems so easy from the outside.  It seems they never struggled and you should just walk away.  Now I’m no world beater and I’ve not accomplished all my goals but as someone who could have easily walked away a thousand times and no one would have thought anything of it I can tell you, even if I never run 1 second faster in anything, that it is HARD, we ALL have bad days, we ALL get frustrated and IF you just keep picking yourself up and dusting yourself off and getting back at it you will reap the rewards.  Maybe not the exact ones you want but rewards all the same."

And this is from a guy who runs a 32 min. 10K.

That would be it.

Everybody goes through it. Training gets to be a slog, you're just not seeing what you think you should be, and your mind starts contemplating how much easier life was when you weren't dealing with all this stuff.

But.... In the end, it's worth it. Eye on the prize, as they say.

Get more rest. Easier said than done at times but rest is crucial for recovery, and recovery is crucial for improvement.

I'm with you on this one...plus threw in it's been 100+ for over 55 days and we break a heat record daily. I have to plan to train in the dark either early morning or late night.  I've been getting up at 4 to do 4 hour rides and runs. Even at 10 o'clock at night or 4 in the morning it's still 90 degrees and humid. Threw in central AC broke last night and I got four hours of sleep trying to fix, which I didn't, and then got up and did a hard bike workout....completely wiped out. Thankfully next week will be a slower/easier week

How are you going to feel if you are "hating" your HIM run at mile 9?  These peak weeks are preparation for your race.  If you can do these workouts, you will have better race.  Suffer now, rest later.
