Subject: RE: navicular stress fracture I know the exact pain you are talking about. When you see the ortho on Monday, ask about the possibility of having an accessory navicular bone - basically an extra navicular bone that sits on top of the "real" navicular. I had this and it was misdiagnosed for several years until last summer when I had an incident while competing in a tri. I was pushed at the start of the swim, trapping my foot between the boat ramp and some rocks. It broke my accessory navicular as well as the real navicular. My original doctor misdiagnosed the injury as arthritis at sent me to P/T. The P/T said there is no way this is arthritis so he sent me to an orthopedic surgeon. She took one look at the x-ray and shook her head in disbelief over the original diagnosis. As to ending your season, it obviously will depend on what your doctor says. I did finish the tri and continued to train for two more months on the injury, but only because the misdianosis led me to believe I wasn't injured. Listen to your doctor but also listen to your body (Many doctors do not understand what we do to train for a tri). If you want more details on the journey I have been on the past year because of my injury, let me know. Edited by fortissimo 2011-08-13 2:09 PM
