vonschnapps - 2011-08-15 4:11 PM Very inspiring, congratulations. I've been reading the book AntiCancer, by Servan-Schreiber http://anticancerbook.com/and just wondering what your before and after lifestyles have been.

About ten years ago, I cleaned up my diet, ate clean, started working out, lost nearly thirty pounds and became fit again (I was an athlete in HS and College). Then I got cancer - go figure. I live a pretty clean lifestyle now, so not a lot has changed in that respect.

Good for you.  It is a good feeling.

When I went in for my 5 year check up & release all the Dr's & nurses started clapping as I was leaving and it took me a few minutes to realize what was going on.  They were clapping for me and the fact they helped save me.

Since I'm currently dealing with it, it's nice to hear positive stories.  I found there are too many negative stories when you look online, so that's why I don't do it.  I rather talk to those people who beat it and the doctors and experts for information.  So thanks for the positive story.

Jim,

I have amazing stories to tell, one after another. You can go through my blog and read those, too. Not always a bed of roses, but AMAZING things happen when we are open to miracles.

They say that your life starts over when you beat cancer...so Happy 5th Birthday!!!  My sister is battling stage IV pancreatic, so I totally understand the journey that is involved.  Congrats again!

I can't really say much that hasn't been said already.  But I want you to know I actually read your entire post...sometimes I skim.  I just wanna say congrats on being a positive mentor/role model for others out there.  That is something that you chose to do.  So thank you!

vonschnapps - 2011-08-15 3:11 PM Very inspiring, congratulations. I've been reading the book AntiCancer, by Servan-Schreiber http://anticancerbook.com/and just wondering what your before and after lifestyles have been.

For me the before and after have been huge. Cancer totally shaped who and what I am. I was 16 when diagnosed the first time. Too young to even realize that my life was in grave danger- thank goodness. Old enough though to learn that life is precious and it's the little moments that really count. Old enough to learn that life is about relationships and giving to others and that material things mean absolutely nothing. I learned at a very young age that life is about living and being thankful for every moment. It's made me grateful and seeing the glass as half full. As difficult as three cancer journeys have been, I wouldn't trade one of them because I've been blessed to know how loved I am, how wonderful and supportive total strangers can be and how awesome God is. Cancer gave all that to me and totally changed the direction of my life.

I live every day to the fullest. I enjoy my children- even when they are throwing tantrums and toys- lol. I just know that it's a blessing to be able to be here with them. I am truly grateful even in times of great stress and difficulty and I promise I've had my share- because at least I am here to live those days. Life is a blessing to be cherished and cancer taught me that.

Upon reading the thread title I IMMEDIATELY stood up at my desk and did a brief Happy Dance in your honor.  THEN I read your wonderful post.  (Life is short, party first.)  Way to go on both counts.
