Swim
Comments: One of my best swims yet. I felt like I swam decent last year, so improving by 58 seconds feels that much better. I rounded the pontoon boat at 4:15 and stood up at 8:30, so I swam very consistently and passed a few people on the way back in. Very happy with my performance here, but I would love to knock another 45+ seconds off next year! What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Had a very good T1. Not much to improve on here. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: A very good bike leg. Got on the bike easily and got going up and over the first little hills before I got my feet in. Putting feet in went smoothly. A few miles were a very rough chip/seal which wasn't fun, but everyone had to deal with it, and pushing at race pace, I don't have much pressure on the saddle anyway. Pushed hard most of the race and really tried to push up the hills. On the way back, I got out of the saddle and really hammered on the up-hills. What would you do differently?: Not much, possibly try to keep pushing instead of recovering so much on downhills. Transition 2
Comments: Another excellent transition. Slipped shoes on and grabbed race number to put on while running out of transition. What would you do differently?: Only thing I can think of is maybe unbuckle helmet while running. Run
Comments: A great run. I came out of T2 2:40 behind the leader, so I headed out hard and was determined to push all the way to the finish. I was struggling to keep my calves from cramping for the first 1/4 mile, but they finally loosened up. After a little more than 1/2 mile into the run, I saw the leader for the first time. Hit the first mile marker slower than 7 minutes and was kinda bummed, but I didn't know how accurate it was either. By the time we turned the second corner, I could tell I was gaining on the leader and felt pretty good. At the second mile marker, my split was 6:09 which gave me a boost to see that number. I figured the first mile was off and the second mile marker was accurate, which still put me down in the 6:30 pace for the first 2 miles. I was VERY close to the leader and caught him looking over his shoulder. I passed him shortly after the 2nd mile and knew I could stay ahead of him for the rest of the run. I hit mile 3 @ 6:09, and knew the first mile had to be off, and I was feeling great at this point. I pushed hard all the way to the finish, not knowing if anyone from the second wave would be ahead of me or not. What would you do differently?: Not much I can think of here other than maybe push a little harder the first mile. Post race
Warm down: Not much here... just walked around and chatted with everyone. What limited your ability to perform faster: Again, can't really complain about much of anything. Had a great race all around. Last updated: 2011-08-14 12:00 AM

Registered and found a spot on the rack. Used the bathroom, then headed out for a warmup.
Biked 3-4 miles, nice and easy for the first mile, then pushed a little to get legs going and eased up for the last mile. Then, rode out the first 1/4 mile of the bike course with Laura and back. Ran out about 1/4 to 1/2 mile and back, then setup transition area. After pre-race meeting, got in water and swam out about 25 yards and back just to get wet.
