Subject: Power Tap Battery Life

I've been using a Power Tap Pro+ since June of 2011.  I've been logging all my miles with it using the equipment feature on the BT training logs, and have changed the batteries for the second time now (only changed them once they died).  I noted in the equipment log the first time, and found pretty interesting results...

So pretty consistant battery life on the power tap.  I just wanted to share in case anyone was planning to use a power tap for a very important race coming up.  If you've haven't changed the batteries in the last 200 hours of riding, you may want to consider doing so.  It's super easy, and the batteries cost you less than a few dollars.
I have just set up a reminder to change the batteries again when I reach 550 hours.

Did you get any warning that they were going? I debated switching mine after reading they were rated at 400 or so hours, but figured I'd get 6 hrs with the low warning. Haven't found if the 310XT can note low bat life on devices.

I use a garmin 500 and there is no low battery warning feature for the PT.  I knew when it died when the wattage reading simply stopped during the middle of a ride.

The only warning that I got was that for a couple of rides my garmin (also a 500) suddenly displayed 0 watts for 5-10 seconds and then started working again.  I just thought it was something weird and then on the 3rd ride, it just died.

Similar question: How long do the batteries in the Little Yellow Computer (LYC) last?  I had to change mine very shortly after getting it, and now I'm noticing the numbers fading a little just 2 weeks later.

Also, does it gobble power when it is in its USB dock?  If so, that might explain my situation.

I had the same issue with the LYC battery. I use the Joule now, but when I did use the LYC, it kind of frustrated me how fast the batteries drained. I actually ended up throwing a spare battery in my seat bag just in case I needed it. More than once I was at a ride start and the battery had died - thankfully I just popped in the new one. When it did die pre-ride, it was usually on a cold morning, and I think there's probably some tie in with the battery just being weaker in the cold combined with fast power drain.

Throw a spare (and a coin) in a bag and in the bike bag - then you're good to go. Quick change.

I got about 200 hours on mine as well - not the 400 I was expecting as per the manual.  As for the YLC, mine eats batteries for breakfast, and I'm not in the mood to spend money on them any more so I get 3 for $1, and swap them every few weeks when the screen starts to fade a bit, or just before a race or important ride.
