Completely on board with this run strategy as well. Last year was the first year I tried the quality vs quantity and had my best year by far. Prior to that I would push through long runs on Sunday and then slog through the following week of training. It got painfully cyclical...

Another area for me that I completely underestimated was run cadence. It was super frustrating when I first started to focus on it. It truly was the "get slower to get faster strategy". But my form got better and there has been significant gains in my speed. New PRs have been established, but most of all I am having a ton of fun training/racing. Plus no lingering aches/pains.

Love all the racing, but pretty jealous at the same time. Not a lot of options this time of the year here.

Next question for the Eagleman vets... Is there parking at the actual race site if you get there early enough? I'd much rather get up earlier than take a shuttle. Thanks in advance for the responses.

There is limited parking on the streets but you have to wake up at the crack of dawn, which most of us get up usually anyway

Rode the course this afternoon.  Great conditions - 70deg and only a light breeze.  Nothing much has changed from last year - the right turn at Dailsville and Church Creek Road is horribly gravelly, but apart from that and the usual detritus on Church Creek Road itself all the roads are good. 

What little wind there was came from an unusual direction (South East - for me at least although I've ridden the course half a dozen times now).  So it was wind against on Smithville and wind with on Egypt Road. 

Great Marsh park doesn't appear to have changed.  I didn't put my toe in the Choptank so can't report on temperature.  But hey we all know it won't be wetsuit legal ...

... did I say all the roads are good ? Of course Egypt Road itself still has sections of rutted asphalt.  No chance of that being redone before the race like Smithfield was last year ...

I got in a nice ride on Saturday.  About 43 miles in Delaware.  Flat, flat, flat.  A one-way point-to-point.  Worked into the wind the whole way.  Right after I finish I felt fine.  Tiredness didn't set in until a few hours after the ride.

Just got back from Knoxville Rev3 half, and after all those hills, I am looking forward to flat course! It was one tough course down there: lots of hills on both the bike and run. Hot conditions comparable to Eagleman, and little shade. Good race overall but the pros who just had the Oly got off easy

So whats the plan for the weekend? We are finally getting some nice weather here, so really looking forward to getting a solid weekend in. On Sat I am riding 65 miles then running 4 off the bike. Sunday I'll run 6 miles in the am, then Bike 20 miles in the afternoon followed by another 5 mile run. Basically doing my best to squeeze my workouts into my 10mos old sons nap schedule!

I had the same experience for my first couple of HIMs. I would feel tired before, during and after a lot of my workouts. I think the biggest benefit for me was to scale back my running and get on my bike more. I spend a large percentage of my time on the trainer due to time restraints, but I have made some significant gains in both biking and running because of it. Even if its just 30-45 minutes, I will squeeze in whatever I can.

I also started to paying closer attention to nutrition. I am still pretty laid back compared to some of my training buddies, but I make sure to refuel after my harder workouts. I don't feel as tired heading into my next workout and know this is part of the reason.

I had a good race this weekend.  2nd in AG.  Very pleased.  I'm probably most happy with the fact that I followed my race plan this time.  Finish swim without pressing too hard and try to do mostly freestyle, keep bike cadence high and drop speed if needed to keep cadence high, have a really good run.  Met all three goals.

I do have an issue that has popped up in my past two races.  I think it is due to the aero bottle and straw since that's the only thing that is different from last year's hydration/nutrition equipment.  In both races this year, I have ended up with lots of 'slooshing' around in my tummy.  Not too bad yesterday but pretty loud in April.  I don't necessarily feel nauseous or anything but it's really loud.  Loud enough to hear it with every footfall.  Could it be that I am getting too much air along with my liquids.  I feel that this is something that could really impact a 13 mile run.

I do not have this issue during training runs.  So far only two races with my new bottle.

Nice! That is awesome and congrats!

As far as the stomach sloshing, I actually don't think air is the issue. I am by no means a nutritionist, but here are my 2 cents... Sloshing can be from too much water consumed and/or not enough electrolytes. Your body needs the electrolytes to absorb the water into the blood stream and if there isn't enough, it will sit in your stomach until that requirement is met.

Because you just started using the aero water bottle, it might just be that you are taking in too much fluid overall. I definitely drink more on my rides with the aero bottle than without. It obviously varies by person, but I believe the average amount of water that should be consumed is 18-24oz per hour. A 1 hour sweat test is a great way to start figuring out your requirements.

Charity slots are probably your only chance for Eagleman.  You'd have to send an email to the RD but expect it to be $$$$ pricy.  

I also raced Kinetic Half this weekend.  Sorry to hear about your stomach issues.

What about rev3 Quassy?  Seems like better terrain to match up with LP and is a week earlier. 

Is your nutrition working for long rides/bricks in training?

Talking to a few people up there, the water is warmer than average for this time of year and the swim hasn't been wetsuit legal for the past few years. I am probably going to bring mine just in case, but I am not expecting it to be wetsuit legal.
