I captured video of most of the final ~15 minutes of the Ironman Wisconsin finish line.  As any of you know who have been to the finish of an Ironman, it's a helluva party, and the energy builds as the clock approaches midnight.

If you've never been there, this gives you a good taste of what it's like.

The final official finisher crossed the line with less than a minute to spare.

The final athlete across the line missed the cutoff by less than a minute.  Bittersweet indeed, but no less an Ironman in our hearts.  (Edit: It looks like they credited her with an official finish after all, 17:00:48.  Seems right by me.)

Enjoy!

The energy out there was just amazing.  It was so cool to watch those folks come in and hear the cheering.  : )

Even the Boston marathon gives you a :59 grace period.

Thanks Steve. I enjoyed it the first time live and enjoyed it all over again on YouTube. (And the quality of the video is excellent.)

This is great to see. Makes me want to go sign up for an IM so I can experience it first hand!

Thank you so much for posting this!! I am finishing about minute 5 on the video (finished at 16:52:09). The energy of the finish line when I came around the corner was CRAZY!!! It was so loud, I couldnt hear Mike Riley!! It was a long day - but that last 30 seconds made it all worth while!!!!

Thanks for that great post. That energy was crazy incredible. 17 hours and still so much energy for the final few triathletes. Super cool video.

I know I should attend these, but I get too dang tired from competing or volunteering to stay that much longer, especially since I have to drive back home home by myself for about 30 - 40 min.

I'll have to watch that sometime.

Thanks for sharing!!

Very fun to watch and motivational. As someone who has finished 2 IMs in the last hour....it is a strange feeling after being mostly alone in the dark for hours often struggling, to come to the bright lights, loud music and all the people cheering is incredible feeling.

Bawled my way thru the video. It reminded me so much of my first marathon finish (thank God it didn't take 17 hours, though it sure felt that way!  Almost made me want to do an IM to experience it. But nothing's gonna make me love biking enough to train for 112 miles of it, esp. when all of said training is on a stationary, trainer, or 6 km loop around an industrial park. Way to go, Ironmen and Ironwomen!
