cottoneyes - 2011-09-22 5:08 PM I like to tell people from PETA that their breathing is taking away valuable oxygen that the animals could use...

That's a very good point too!

I found out yesterday that PETA tried to get Timothy McVeigh to be a vegetarian for his final meals before execution: http://articles.philly.com/2001-04-04/news/25332316_1_peta-ingrid-newkirk-bruce-friedrich

Really?

I don't see anywhere in the article where they were arguing against fishing and keeping for eating. I imagine PETA isn't a fan of this practice either but it isn't the krux of the article.

The issue being rasied is fishing for sport. So hooking the thing, dragging it by the mouth and then putting it back just for the fun of it.

I imagine more people would have a problem with that than would have a problem with fishing for food. Just as I wouldn't shoot a deer in the leg, run it down, beat on it with a stick and then let it go. I'd shoot it, kill it, and eat it.

I can't believe that I'm going to make this reply my first foray into the world that is COJ - but here I go:

To each their own - you can certainly believe what you want.  However, I fell like this comes from an imbalance of perspective.  One should not be needlessly cruel to animals, but one of their functions on this earth is to be food.  You can go the "God" route here and say that's what God intended, or you can go the "evolution" route and take a look at the make up of our teeth - either way points to an intention to eat meat for sustenance.

As long as a vegan/vegetarian doesn't think they should eat meat, I'm all for it - more for me, but as soon as that person doesn't think I should eat meat (and thinks I'm committing murder in the process) that goes too far.

I'll end with a Lion King reference:  it does go back to the circle of life and a lack of understanding of how that works.  My vegan cousin was dumbfounded when she found out that farmers actually had to kill rabbits and deer to protect their crops in order for her to have the lifestyle she chose.

Anyway - that's my view and since it was free, you get what you pay for.

"It's ok to eat fish 'Cause they don't have any feelings"

(Cobain, K. 1989, Bleach, Cobain et al, Reciprocal Recording)

If they don't have feelings, then it's ok to torture them also. Thank you Mr. Cobain, issue settled!

I figure the citation makes it more credible, no?

My bother's response:

"These people really are kind of dumb, I will give them credit for living up to their beliefs but I can't wait to see them try to protest during the zombie apocalypse trying convince them to be vegetarians"
