Subject: Intervention: Members of the SEC

Now, this has gone on just way too long.  In order to prop up their flailing programs, these SEC fans continue to dribble on about their conference and how its so much stronger than any other conference.  Balogna!  This isn't the 80's.  Bear Bryant passed away a long time ago.

Can't you just hear the rectum's slamming shut right now among your SEC bretheren?  They're sweating, pondering their response.  They'll say "The SEC has 5 teams in the top 25 versus the ACC's, uhm, 5"  We have Tennessee (over-rated) and Florida (unproven), Georgia and LSU.  So what? You've also got Vandy, Mississippi, Arkansas, and South Carolina.  What's really funny is that Vandy is tops in the SEC East.  That just about says it all.

So, suffice it to say, the SEC is a good conference.  But, it does not warrant the continued assertion that its head and shoulders above any other.  Those days are long gone, my friends.  You can choose to live in the past or get with the program.

This situation is like the guy in the office who wears the toupee.  Everyone knows it looks like crap, but no one will do the guy a favor and tell him.  Well, call this tough love, my SEC friends.  Call it an intervention.  Reality is sometimes a bitter pill to swallow.

Yeah!  I love college football...go FSU Seminoles!

Sagarin's numbers speak for themselves....

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbc05.htm

Virtual dead heat between  ACC and Big Ten.  SEC below the PAC-10 in the #4 slot.  As a CONFERENCE, the ACC is holding the bigger guns right now.

GO HOKIES!

This is almost like me starting a thread regarding SEC basketball being on par with ACC basketball - there are certain truths in life, right now the only decent team out of the ACC is VT. FSU and UM have unproven QBs (who stunk it up to start the season), and you also have such chart toppers as Duke, UNC and WF. Hell, the SEC east is better than the entire ACC.

As if it matters. It's not like anyone can play ball with the semi-pro team known as USC. The difference between 1 and 2 is comedy gold.

Some homer random thoughts...

How quickly Oklahoma has tanked. From the Championship game to losing two of three? Is UCLA that good or is Oklahoma that bad. I'm thinking Oklahoma is that bad.

Texas needs a quarterback.

Matt Leinert is gonna win the heisman...again!

For those of you who don't live in the vaunted South, there's a certain aire about it with regard to the SEC.  If you listen to radio sports talk, the news casts, or read the papers, its SEC first and everything else second.  What these poor folks fail to realize is that the glory days of the SEC began to fade years ago.  At best, the SEC is the 4th or 5th strongest conference in the nation, but you'd never know it living here in Atlanta.

There it is again...it starts as a barely perceived thumping sound...is it really there or is it your imagination...No it's getting louder, you can definetely hear the drums...But what's that other sound... a low almost molodic hum...no it's not a hum its a chant. Slowly it builds, your Gator mind starts to get anxious, fearful...instictually you are afraid. Something is coming, and it's something big and bad. The drums are pounding now, the chant is relentless. And there out of the mist you see him... on his white horse flaming spear in hand, raised, ready to attack. your fear is palpable now, you can taste it in your mouth. You won't admitt you're afraid, but deep down, in your heart of hearts you know, you're in trouble.

No question that Southern California is head and shoulders above everyone else this year.
I can't think of any conference that is strong from top to bottom, but have to put my vote in for the Big 10: Ohio State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, and Purdue. Six pretty good teams out of 11.
My kids go to UF and we've watched the Gators play the last couple of weeks. They just don't seem to be quite in-synch with Urban's offense yet. Be interesting to see what they do with Kentucky this weekend, after the Wildcats were beat up last week by a bad Indiana team.

I'd wait until the "Mighty" Commodores aren't leading the division before I declare the SEC East to reign supreme over the ACC in it's entirety (even if they did beat Wake Forest).

Case in point.  The only reason the "dawg's" are any good is because they hired a coach from the ACC to be their Head Coach, and he's from FSU no less.

ACC got a lot of help by raping the Big East. VT, Miami, those teams will help strengthen any conference. As far as Vandy being 3-0, well ..... there is a God.

C'mon Karl...what have you been smoking, man? You're seriously comparing the ACC to the SEC. Sheesh. You said "The SEC has 5 teams in the top 25 versus the ACC's, uhm, 5." Well...the SEC's 5 in the top 25 include #s 3, 5, 7 and 10. The ACC only has 2 teams in the top 10. You talk about the SEC teams being unproven, but Miami and FSU are gloriously overrated. FSU has an inept offense, that only looks good because of a second half against the Citadel (in the first half, FSU looked like they should be playing 1-AA ball. If you disount the Citadel game, you're only scoring 19ppg.

And Karl, bragging about being the best team in the ACC is like bragging about being the smartest kid on the short bus.

GO GATORS!!!

FSU winningest college football program of the 1990's, most January bowl appearances of the 1990's, best home record since 1990, most top 5 finishes since 1990, most top 10 finishes since 1990, most top 15 finishes since 1990, Alltime record in FSU UF series, FSU is 19-28-2, of course since 1990 FSU is 9-5-1 against the Gators, even if you go back into the 80's in which the Gators won 6 years in a row, that only changes FSU's record to 13-11-1 against the Gators. You have to go back into the 70's before you can find the Gators "dominating" the 'Noles.

Also both the ACC and SEC have 5 teams in the top 25, ACC has numbers 4,6,12,15 and 23, while the SEC has 3,5,7,10,and 20. The key is that the ACC has 3 other schools receiving votes but note ranked: BC, NC state, and Clemson. Top to bottom the ACC is a stronger conference.
This of course is all moot as it will be settled on the field in November.

You guys all read from the same playbook.  I hear you about our offense.  But, that's on the mend, and with a freshman quarterback to boot.  Florida's stumbling offense was bailed out by the defense and special teams against Tennessee (guess you never heard about rocks and glass houses).  Leak is what, a senior?  Yeah, right.

As you said, its all gonna be settled on the field Nov 26th.  But, man o'man, enough with the "we're the SEC and we're better".  There is absolutely nothing to substantiate such a claim in 2005.  By the way, I'm predicting an upset of your vaunted gators by 'Bama!  Too bad Spurrier won't be there to throw a visor or two.

Afraid of what, that one of you will try to use a double negative, or take a pass at algebra?

I can tell you with all certainty that I am not afraid of some sissy playing dress up and riding a horse - that he needs to have a trainer standing nearby so he doesn't get a boo boo.

By the way, if you add the number of votes given to each conference (according to the AP) the SEC wins, as usual, by a margin of 5366 to 4806 - that is really like you guys needing another top 15 team to catch us...try again later.
