Congratulations. I'm new to tri this year and stories like this are so inspiring. My 2012 goal is a 70.3 and you are proof that all it takes is hard work. I'm even more psyched to do Jorge's plan this winter.

"I am a finisher" - congrats again, especially since I hope to say the same thing next year!

Nice job!  I also took that biking advice for my first HIM this weekend, and I think it paid off.  13.1 miles is waaaaaaay too far for a death march!

Having a good bike definitely helps.  Not crashing your bike during your HIM also helps ).

Congrats!!

My AG placements in my HIM this summer...out of 87 guys in the AG:  11th swim, 9th run...43rd bike.  Yes, it certainly CAN be all about the bike...

In a local Oly this summer, I came out of the water right next to this guy I met a week earlier at a road race.  We were both poor swimmers and came out of the water 0.5 seconds apart.

I proceeded to have the fastest bike split in our AG.  He had the fastest run in our AG.  He beat me overall by over 16 minutes...and I had a run that I was pretty pleased with.

You can make examples of how it's all about the bike...or it's all about the run.  Pretty much though...it's about BOTH.  It's definately not all about the swim...LOL

I wish it was. I'm still waiting for that tri of 2.4 mile swim/30 mile bike/ 1 mile run.

I want this Tri.  I think the best Triathlon would be one where the athletes spend equal (or close to equal) amounts of time on each leg.  I think I remember a previous post on this forum about a new base distance for triathlons on this subject

Are you a super-human swimmer/biker or doing a handstand run?

Abu Dhabi is the closest I've seen: 3k/200k/20k  - that's a 1.86 swim, 124 bike, 12.4 run for us English types.  Not exactly what you're after, but the way your bike is improving it could work.

Great job for the OP on the 70.3 execution.  Hills are a great challenge and it can be tough to maintain a constant effort and not redline going up.

My running may-as-well be hand-stand walking.  I am super slow and grew up swimming.  There are just some of us that arent so good at running

I hear ya.

I basically cut out all swimming to focus on running and biking. With minimal swimming, I'm still a solid MOP on the swim, but I've been BOP in every run (10:30 pace) this year.

haha...neither...but you wouldn't know it with my run.  Interesting concept on the equal time for each leg idea.  Would you take the average triathlete for each and go by that?  Because everyone is better at one thing.  Maybe the good runners should have to run farther!!!!!  YES!!!
