At $675, this seems like an amazing deal to me. Anybody know why I would want to wait (other than the 30g) and buy the 2012 Powertap Pro?

I'm a light guy at <140lbs, I'd imagine this wheel would be just fine for training?

Good deal, but $675 doesn't include a computer, so if you have an ANT+ computer (that you can connect to a PT), then yes, you'll be fine, if you don't have the computer, the $925 for the PT plus the Garmin 500 is a good deal.

This is a very durable wheel... the Open Pro is one of the stronger rims you can buy and built with 32 spokes, laced 3x, then you have nothing to worry about... would handle at least twice your weight.

I do... I bought a 310XT in anticipation of getting power for the winter training months.

That's the wheel set-up I've been riding for the last two years---every training ride, every race (with a cover).  I recently got a 310xt (was using LYC before that).  So yes I say that's a great deal and since I weigh they same as you I'd say you'll be just fine!!!  Enjoy the journey of training/racing with power!
