Now that I am starting to look into nutrition, it got me thinking about the early stage of IM/HIM races or long training sessions.

Today there is so many nutrition products out there to help us get through training or races. All those products have been and are a major contributor of how well he can perform during an event since nutrition is a success factor.

So my question is the ealry stage of IM or HIM (going up to the begining of the first IM), what did they use as nutrition?

On a side note, the reason why it start to make me thinking is that I can't still not get myself to eat a complete gel and trying to figure maybe other alternatives out there.

Cheers!

When I did the Bud Light Ironman World Triathlon Championship in Kona, Hawaii back in 1986 we had bananas, Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies, orange slices, water, coke, and Gookinaid ERG sports drink.

Since then I've done over 300 (way over) races at every distance on all seven continents, including Antarctica. I've also done the longest adventure races on earth, The Raid Gauloisses in Vietnam, The Discovery Channel Eco-Challenge in British Columbia and the 152 mile ultra running race in Morocco, the Marathon des Sables as well as the Jordan Telecom Desert Cup, a 104 mile running race along the Jordanian/Iraqi border.

Three things I've learned about race nutrition is: less is more, simpler is better and use the aid stations.
