Thanks!

My next race will be a sprint tri on Aug. 8. I haven't actually signed up yet, but I don't think it's closed out yet. It shouldn't be too hard: 400 m swim, 12 mi bike, 3.1 mi run.

On Labor Day, I'm running the US Classic 10k in Atl. It should be horrid since it's just about all uphill, but I don't have to pay the entry fee since my co is a sponser and I get 1 free ticket to Whitewater and another 1/2 off one. Basically, I'm pimping myself out so I can go to the water park.

After that, I'm thinking of shooting for a 1/2 marathon on Thanksgiving. The Atlanta Track Club, which sponsored the Peachtree Road Race, also sponsers this 1/2M so they printed up a training program that's 3 days/wk of running that'll get you prepared by Nov. It seems doable ...

I'm just amazed that I was able to go from nothing to this since March!

Nice going with the under 1 hour time. I blamed the bands and the sea of people for my time of 1 hour and 20 minutes. What group did you start with? I was in group 5.

Subject: Hi Shane
I was in the last time group - 9. I got very frustrated by all the people walking on the left hand side of the road because I was constantly dodging people. I ended up yelling "on your left" just to get people to move outta the way. It was also frustrating waiting for 1 hr at the starting line. Maybe next year I can get up into the first time group and get a chip.

I think what helped me a lot was all the hill training I've done. I do 3 runs a week and at least 1 or 2 are out on the road with all the hills that are around here. After I got up cardiac hill, I realized that every single hill in my neighborhood was worse. I guess a lot of people train on flat surfaces and are taken by surprise.

The people and water stations were a bit of a distraction and I felt my concentration fading about half the way through, but darnit, I enjoyed detouring for every hose along the way! I got soaked, but it felt great!

I looked at your training log and considering that you don't run much, you should be very proud of yourself. Also, you had 2 long bike rides in the 2 days before the race, so your legs were already tired to begin with. I barely moved the two days before the race just so I could be completely fresh.

You know, that's the great thing about people training for triathlons -- we all come from different backgrounds and prefer doing different sports. I do much more running than anything else and it looks like biking is your thing!

Hey, everyone has a first time and

Hey Aims,

I think we're leading parallel triathlon lives! I'll definitely have to sign up for the Acworth tri now. And considering that the HM training plan is hanging on my fridge as well, we may have to meet up for some long runs or a preview of the Acworth tri!

Heck, I'm excited to find another woman in the area who's trying to do all the stuff that I'm trying to do!

The deal with the running is that I am still recovering from a broken foot from last year. The biking doesn't seem to hurt it, but the running is excruciating. I am actually going to try to start swimming again today - also last year I tore a tendon in my elbow. Last year wasn't my year, many injuries in trying to go from sprint tri's to a half-ironman...My next run will be the 4 miles in the Elephant Walk triathlon down in Destin, FL. Hopefully, my foot will be 100% for the Chattahoochee race next year. I could really use a number for the front of the Peachtree. :-)

Hey Whit:

My personal trainer was very adamant about not doing too much mileage with the runs, so I never ran way too much. I wish I did though I think I might actually be a better runner.

From the feedback I'm getting I'm hoping to up that mileage, I think this training program is going to help tons.

Love to go on a run with you sometime

Aims

Well crap, no wonder about the time! Geez you're a trooper! Has the dr. given you clearance to run? I know I wouldn't be able to bring myself to do anything that was excrutiating!

Well, I wish you the best for a speedy recovery!
