Subject: '06 Trek 1500 or 05' Cannondale R700?

I am ready to buy my new road bike....I have narrowed it down to these two.  Anyone have some input on which is better and why?  I am really torn as to which to buy.    Have also looked at a Specialized Allez, but I really think I want the Cannondale or the Trek.  Budget is $1000-$1200, so these two fit perfectly into the money issue.

What's the reason that you "really want" a Trek or Cannondale?  Also, have you been on both of the bikes?  In the end it comes down to what you feel comfortable on.

You mentioned the Specialized Allez...  I bought the Allez Elite back in the spring, very satisified with the bike after 1000+ miles.  I think it falls into your price range as well.

I beleive the Cannondale is built in the US and is the better frame. Not sure about where the Trek 1500 is made. It might come down to which feels and looks better, or the lower price which will allow you to get more accessories. Are the component specs the same?

I can  not speak to those specific models - but I bought a cannondale IM 2000 last year - and I absolutly love it.  I found that after riding the different bikes, my decision wasn't that hard - usually one bike will really stand out above the rest in terms of fit and feel.

Good luck and enjoy that first ride!!!!

I have a 2005 1500 and I love it. I think the most important factor in your decision should be how the bikes fit. For me, that was the deciding factor. Try them both out and see if you have a strong preference for one or the other.

Both are good bikes. I also looked at both before I bought my R700. I in the end, my decision came down to the better attention and service I got from the local Cannondale dealer.

There's not much difference between those two specific bikes.  For me it would be which one looks better and which dealer treated me better.  Also, which shop has better mechanics.

I've had one C'dale in my life. It was fast, responsive and stiff, but also the most uncomortable thing I've ever had between my legs (let the jokes begin). It was a CAAD 3 frame, though, so maybe the newer models are less harsh?

Just so everyone knows, Trek's headquarters and factory are in beautiful Waterloo, WI. Lance was just here and signed a lifetime contract with them to ride and promote Trek Products.

Hard to comment on those two bikes, but don't make your decision based on which one is built in the US...they both are...

I have a Cannondale R800... I love it. It fits me well and sometimes feels like an extension of myself... not a bike I'm riding at all... I was deciding between the Cannondale and a Felt, and I went with the Cannondale. Am very pleased with it. Good Luck, let us know what you decide!

The 1500 is built in the US, but some of the lower-end Trek models like the 1000 do have Asian-built frames.
