I'm completely tat-less and piercing-less :-/
I've always wanted to get a tattoo but have never been able to settle on one design long enough to convince myself to go ahead and do it.

But when i eventually do, i'll probably be something small in a very not-masculine place like on my hip or on the outside of my ankle.

Here is one design i've thought about modifying for a tattoo:

Elaine, I've said it before but that is just a beautiful piece of artwork you've got. It's quite stunning.
And I gotta agree with Possum -- more muscles? Where's the pics?!?!

And Possum - the gecko (on my breast) isn't worth showing off, especially not amongst all this gorgeous artwork. It got screwed up by the first artist, and I had it fixed, but I wasn't willing to go with a solid black design so it looks kinda wonky. So, word of warning to anyone considering a tattoo -- thoroughly investigate your artist first, and watch him/her work to see how good they really are. It's worth it.

The gecko does have a great story tho -- I ran into the artist who fixed it about 6 months after, at a massive street festival. Right there in the middle of 10,000 people, his girlfriend yanks down my shirt to see her boyfriend's handiwork, and starts telling people "Look how good this turned out! He fixed it for her!" I wasn't sure whether to be mortified or amused.

Thanks everyone!  It took a long time, but I really like how it came out.

The swimsuit pic is pretty recent.  The link above that that shows the entire piece (without clothing) was before the tri training.  But thanks!

I think tatoos are ugly, especially on men, its like they care too much about their image. Scars are the only sexy body marking, they really are individual, like a marking of your past experiences. I've got a long one up my inner thigh from coral, unfortunate windsurfing hazard... That said, I'm sure I wouldn't let tatoos put me off some bodies...

You realize... you are on a triathlete website. We ALL care about our body image.

If you've lurked for only 3 days, you surely could not have missed the shaving posts, the manscaping posts.

Do you think its all about body image?
Surely love of the sport, and endorphins and making life worth more than work and tv is why people do it, not because they think that their shaved muscled rectus femoris (quads) looks sexy. Of course, thats part of it. But if thats everything then surely you shouldn't be competing.

Honey, we all want to look good nekid. Anyone who says otherwise is kidding only themselves. I'm sorry if my motivation is not high-brow enough for ya; I hope they won't blackball me from competing!

Oh, and here's my other motivation... I love the scenery!

Why are they different from say jewlery or even clothes. It's form of self-expression, the way those things are. It's not about body image...well, I guess I can't speak for everyone, but for me it's not.

my tattoos are all individual and markings of past experiences. sure, other people may have something similar but in no way are they exactly the same as mine. they came from my ideas with input from my artist. really the only time i find them ugly are when they are very poorly done and there are some extremely bad tattoos out there. placement also plays a part.

I have no tattoos or piercings, my only only permanent markings are my neuroses, and I can't take a picture of them. .......I am, however, quite punctual

thegomer - 2005-10-11 10:47 AM my tattoos are all individual and markings of past experiences. .

Mine is a representation of my hard work and lifestyle change. I love it. My next one is going to mark my iron achievement and that tattoo isn't about body image either. We all have our reasons for doing tri's and the looking good naked is a definite plus. I do it to be healthy and to challenge myself and I'd go crazy if I didn't have an outlet. I'm not complaining that I look a lot better in all the free shirts and other tri gear because of it!

Tri and tattoo on!

Hell, I can barely draw a bath, much less....

One probably looks like this though....

I'm awfully sorry, I didn't really mean to be insulting to everyone, I'm sure you guys/girls look great in your bodies, however they are marked. I'm terribly tactless I know, and politeness is meant to define 'old blighty'. My only defense is that I'm actually a danish/south african/irish mongrel, and danes have no concept of subtlety..none.
