Pre-race routine:

It was nice to have a race close to home! Breakfast of 2 eggos & PB with some gatorade, and headed out with kids at about 7:30.
Event warmup:

Mike ran the 5K first so my warm up was getting him settled and being there to cheer for him and congratulate him on his 28:10 finish (he's 9 - I need to watch out!). After he finished I ran to the car to stretch my legs a bit and get my new Amphipod belt for it's first use. Didn't stretch as much as I should have for the chilly weather.

Comments:

This was my first 10K and I loved it! My goal was to finish under 60 minutes, and did, by three seconds! The first five miles felt really good; by the 6th mile my hamstrings started to tighten up and I was ready to finish. I treated it as a training run, and practiced with my amphipod for the 1/2 marathon, drinking an ounce or so at every mile. I felt good at the end, but I know that I need to do more long runs in preparation for the 1/2 marathon! Last year I ran the 5K here and it was my first race of any kind ever. I ran it in just over 36 minutes and I was pretty tired. What a difference a year makes!
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I think I ran this as well as I could have at this time!
Post race
Warm down:

Spent some time with other BTers - Autumn, Jay, Ian, and Steve. It was great to have a support team! Had some snack and gatorade. Should have stretched. Kids both ran the 1K so I watched them run and wandered the activities area.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to do MUCH MORE STRETCHING every day! I also need to incorporate more long runs and get onto my training schedule more seriously. After my last tri/du I haven't been quite so disciplined...I'm ready, though!

Event comments:

This will be an annual event for our family!

It was great to meet you, and has your son signed with an agent yet? That kid is fast! Great job on hitting your goal. I've already made note that this race will be a must do for me next year, it was a blast.

Good Luck,
Jay
