Subject: Beginning in the off-season?
I want to do a triathlon next spring/early summer. I'm more excited about the training than the actual event since I haven't picked on out yet. I'm fairly athletic, but have never tried anything like this before. My biggest question is:

Can I start training for next year's triathlon in the offseason or will I be burned out by next spring?

It's never too early to start.  Just gradually build your base for nowuntil you're ready to start a specific training plan for your raceseason.

I started traing last Sept. and didn't have my first race until May.  I had no background in any of the sports, so it was perfect to allow myself to gradually build distance (esp. running) and work on technique (esp. swimming).  I had started with the goal of a sprint race or two and ended up doing sprints, an (unfinished) oly and a half-ironman.  Marathon is up next.  Good luck!

Yup, never too early - I started my training in August and I don't have my first Tri until next May - I sure hope I'm not burned out!

What programs did you use? Did you start a second program after finishing one or just do a longer program?

start now, have fun with the training. Burnout is only in the mind.

I started at BT on Nov 8 2004.  My first tri wasn't until April 24th and I suffered no burnout.  You'll always be trying new things so burnout is doubtful

Hello,
I am beginning in the off-season too. I am trying the couch-to-sprint program now.

I've just started training as well. I plan to do my first 5K at the end of January and my first sprint in June. It seems that as long as you keep things fun and varied, burn-out should not be a factor.
