Pre-race routine:

Cold (10'C), gale force sou'westerly and rain showers at start.Cleared up a little inot the race. Was sunny at the end. Even got burnt shoulders and forehead.
Event warmup:

1 km run plus stretching. Was too cold and wet to stay out for long.
Run
  • 3h 35m 15s
  • 42.2 kms
  • 05m 06s  min/km
Comments:

Grerat start. Headed off at 4:40's and felt easy. Paced myself well with different groups. Judged my energy levels well. Had to walk 3 times over last 4 km's as h/strings were on the verge of cramping. No bonking, just showing lack of distance runs to inure legs to 3+ hrs of effort.
What would you do differently?:

Do more long distance runs in training.
Post race
Warm down:

Bottle of water and a beer! Some stretching then walk in surf, followed by massage of lower back and then a hot bath. Felt really good straight after the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of distance training.

Event comments:

Good race, well organised on the day and at race pack pickup.
