Pre-race routine:

Routine?
Event warmup:

Standing around in tents sheltering from the rain. Drinking hot coffee provided by Au Bon Pain. Miscellaneous stretching.
Run
  • 1h 19m 5s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

My first 10K! I was really surprised that I didn't fall apart after 5K. For that matter, I was really happy that I didn't walk *until* 5K. Felt weird to be starting with everyone!
What would you do differently?:

Study the course beforehand. Because of the multiple turnbacks on Mem Dr I misunderstood where the halfway point was.

Arrive later!
Leave a bag with dry shoes for afterwards at the Baggage Check area.
Post race
Warm down:

After "sprinting" the last 0.2 K I was tempted to sit right down, but instead I kept walking while I drank water, snacked, picked up my goody bag, etc.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Um, well, I could have stood to train more.

Event comments:

I love racing by the river on Memorial Drive when it's closed to traffic!

It was fun taking the subway to get there and seeing lots of other women in running clothes going to the same place.

The organizers recommended arriving at 10am for a noon start. I arrived around 10:30, worried that I was late. Ha! Waiting around for an hour and a half was a drag.

I would have liked more variety of postrace snacks, especially fruit. They did have bananas.

Mary...super job on your first 10K!!!

Sounds like you paced yourself well. Great course....Memorial Drive is fun. Keep up the super job training and racing!

I had wanted to do the race but family stuff got in the way.

Hope to see you at an upcoming event!!

Logging my training since I joined BT: "Saturday: sit around and worry about Tufts 10K. Sunday: ditto. Monday: Tufts 10K. Tuesday: sit around and feel good about Tufts 10K."

Upcoming races: there are a couple of 5K's here in Davis Square that I might do, one on 10/22 and one on Thanksgiving. I could be persuaded to venture out to some other race though.

I'm thinking about a big race in March or April as a (ambitious) goal - either Boston's Race to Remember 1/2-marathon or St. Anthony's Triathlon. (I have relatives in that part of Florida.) Yow, it feels like tempting fate even to say "half-marathon"!
