Subject: Bike Question:Trek 1500 or Specialized Roubaix?
I am stuck with a choice for my first road bike (I have been riding a hybrid for two years). I go back a forth and need an outside opinion for the following two bikes that I can get for roughly the same price:

Trek 1500:
Local bike shop
Seen good reviews for the price
Have had good experience with my Trek hybrid
No real discount

Specialized Roubaix:
Bike shop two hour drive away - know the owner
Very good discount (roughly $750 off - equal to cost of Trek 1500)
Unfamiliar with Specialized
Seen good reviews

Any comments would help me break my decision.

Thanks in advance!

Between those two, the Roubiax is a better bike.

That said, which feels better to ride? Does your LBS (the local one, not the one two hours away) service Specialized?

Thanks for the response. Both bikes feel the same to ride - but anything would be better than the hybrid that I am riding now. I live in a larger city, so I know I can find a shop to service the Specialized. What makes the Roubaix better?

FWIW as a newb myself... I tried the Roubaix out and was very close to buying the "Comp" I think it was (with Durace). In the end finished up buying the 06 Giant OCR Comfort Composite instead - was very close but the Giant was some A$1500 (about $1000) cheaper... its their new more relaxed fit a la the Roubaix so might also be worth a look.... sorry for taking you off in a new direction!!!!

I ride the roubaix, great bike, no problems at all. I ride this for both long and short course.

I also ride a Roubaix and love it. The front and rear carbon forks are very forgiving on a bumpy course, especially on a long ride which was my deciding factor for getting it.

I too looked at the Roubaix before buying a Madone 5.9 SL.  From my research Specialized has a great reputation with this frame.  It has a more relaxed geometry than a flat out road/race bike.  I don't know much about the Trek 1500.  My vote would go to the Specialized.  Gotta love that carbon!
